Hello again VJ,

After figuring out that my dream of moving back to Nigeria with my husband to direct consular file was null and void, I "womaned" up and turned my eyes back to the ir1 cr1 process.

With that said, I would like to know our chances with a tourist visa while the i130 is being processed, the length of process time, how much the sponsor(I) should hold in their account and the fees or helpful links.

A little info: My husband is not enthusiastic about coming, he is quite comfortable in Nigeria. Owns land, car and serves the government of Nigeria with a retirement plan set in place for him.

He would like to first visit and get acquainted with his future home before he decides to leave all his comfort behind.

Also, those are some aspects that could prove ties to his home country and intent to return.

All responses will be well appreciated.

Thanks!

Knowing what I know now and if in fact your Husband has the stuff above, it is lunacy for him to consider moving to the US. It simply makes no sense, IMHO.

In any case if he does have all that I don't see how he would not be able to get a tourist visa. Well until he mentions that he has a Wife/Fiancee in the US.

Good luck.

Well, the only thing that makes it sensible to him is his love for me and I for him. I stayed there for three months with intent to live and it was really a bit much for me. Hence is deciding to try relocating here.

But, by him being married to me, is it an automatic denial? We will be simultaneously processing the ir1.

As far as I know, him being married to you is not an automatic denial but it brings up a strong point of discussion.

Well, I salute your love for each other. I think he knows the value of what he'll be giving up hence him not being enthused about it.

If you don't mind, what exactly puts you of about Nigeria?

Agreed...while all his ties to Nigeria seem like a great starting off point, when they see he is married to a USC, it will probably be denied. All you can do is prepare yourself and apply! No one can tell you 100%, except that IO, of course!

I don't mind. Nothing puts me off necessarily. I struggled with the average way women did things there, i.e. washing clothes, using the generator, going to the market without being cheated, the intense energy draining heat all combined with a headstrong Nigerian man was alot for me all at once.

I love my husband, he taught me to cook his favorites like egusi which is pretty tasty too! Being black, I fit in with the locals until I spoke.

But, anyway, I was too overwhelmed with it all, long story shortened. Great place full of strong people!!

The success rate of visit time applicants for visitors visas from Nigerian are dismal. Doctors, Lawyers, Chuch officials, Teachers they all tend to be denied the first time even with homes , cars, businesses and families ( such as Nigerian wife and children not travlling ) As it seems money is not a problem with you it doesn't hurt to try, don't buy any non refundable tickets and NEVER lie as the denial of a visitors visa has no affect on your CR/IR1 misrepresentation can end you hopes of ever setting foot in the US on any visa.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

As I re-read it, I see she said don't buy any non refundable tickets.

Do they require seeing an itinerary first?

And where are my manners, thank you all for your great insight and responses!

They do not require one, no harm having one.

Many people make the mistake of buying cheap ( non refundable) tickets on the hope that having spent the money the embassy will feel compelled to issue a visa. This doesn't work. If you have plans for a specific vacatio ( week in Disneyland or such ) you can show these plans. You can bring details of any event that is the reason for your trip. It is more important to show that you MUST leave at the end of your trip. First time applicants , especially if they don't have ecidence of trips to other countries reqiuring visas have very poor results.
