This topic needs to be moved out of ROC.

To apply for a sibling you must be a citizen and it doesn't matter his age or marital status. However it takes 12 years to get a visa after you can submit the petition.

I do not understand. It takes 12 years for who to get a visa? And then the original poster can submit a petition for what?

What is the 12 years to get a visa all about???

Thanks

The original poster wants to petition his brother, to do that he must be a US citizen , permanent residents can only petition spouse and children. Once he is a USC he can petition parents and siblings. Siblings are a limited visa class only X visas are given a year so you must wait in line. The current line for a sibling is 12 years after your sibling files. So the OP has at least 12 years and maybe closer to 20 before his brother can come.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

No, the math isn't right. If you do it your way, it is five years to citizenship or five years to N-400 then 12 years so minimum 17 years. But I cannot find the 12 years.

The OP can become a US Citizen after five years. He can use the I-130 listed in the Processing Timelines once he is a citizen. The I-130 waiting time is about 3 years. So the OP can file the I-130 after 5 years and maybe there will still only be about a 3 or 4 year wait.

Every class of visa you look up the visa bulletin to see the priority dates currently being processed.

Sibling petition are class F4 Currently they are working May 2001 for all countries except Mexico ( Sept 1996 ) and the Philippines ( Aug 1989)

Citizenship petitions are taking about a year from filing to papers now but lets say 6 months, If the op just got a green card not based on marriage you are looking at 5 years + 6 months plus 12 years. If the green card is marriage based AND he stays marriage you can take 2 years off the timeline.

If the OP is from the Philipines the timeline extends to over 25 years.

It is about 12 years after he becomes a citizen.

That assumes that a sibling category still exists.

I got my green card 10 years month and I have question can I apply for my brother to give him green card or I have to be citzan because when I got my citzan ship he will be 21 ?

You can file a petition for your brother after you become a US citizen. A green card holder cannot file a petition for a sibling.

Your brother (regardless of age and marital status) will be under the F4 category (Brothers/Sisters of Adult US Citizens). Waiting time for F4 is 12 YEARS.

if the OP has has green card through marriage he can become a citizen after 3 years, not 5. The wait is 12 years AFTER citizenship, and if he has his 10 year green card that means he can become a citizen in 1 year, thus making the wait 13 years from now, not 17.
