I recently went through this. Basically there are two things

1. Passport Police Clearance (Obtained from passport office)

2. Police Clearance Certificate (Obtained from police commisioner's office)

1 is mandatory while 2 is optional (I think..please verify). I got both.

It was a harrowing experience getting Passport police clearance. The guys usually don't have a clue.

But it has to be obtained from the passport office. You need to be patient, explain the process and stand your ground.

Fill in the form on the PSK website and get an appointment. Then go to the passport office, be very patient and explain things to them.

A question on the passport and police clearance:

We filed our I-130 about a month ago and are still waiting on our NOA2. I know it's early in the process, but would there be any harm in getting the passport police clearance now? At least it'll feel like we're doing something rather than just waiting. I wanted to make sure it wouldn't hurt anything if we did. Thanks!

hello there, :)

we too had the same question in mind ..but found out thru research tht its ideal to get it wen ur NOA2 arrives, cos in some cases i did read tht certain PSKs ask for noa2 approval (tho in ours they did not),secondly because once the noa2 arrives u will have enuf time for gettin the pcc(if thr r no passport issues) and it will remain fresh and recent wen u send to the NVC. :)

I'd wait till you get the NOA2. I think the PCC is only valid for 6 months, so that might be cutting it close if you get it now.

Thanks for the advice. I'm hoping, without any particular basis in reality, that it won't take 6 months. If the PCC is valid for a year, even better. We'll just go ahead and try, and if they require NOA2, then that's that.

Starting to get impatient after a month doesn't bode well for my sanity...

All you need is PCC from local passport office. No need to get any other local clearances
