Hi everyone,

Can Anyone share their experiences about changing names before the process? How could it affect it? I really would like to change my last name beofre we start but I dont want to confuse the process even more. please advise THANKS

If you look closely at the example forms here on VJ for K-3 visa process, I-130, and I-129F you will notice that they are written as if the wife changed last name to husband's family name.

Yes if your marriage certificate shows the new family name, then that is what is put on the petition forms.

On the G-325A form there is a line for former names All other names used, the maiden name is placed there.

This is normal and not unusual and the USCIS, NVC and Consular officer wont have a problem with that.

If you have time you could gen name changed in the passport, but it is not necessary for the process, that is what the other names used lines on the forms is for.
