Passport pics: centimeters, inches

I know the passport pics are to be 2" x 2"

However, what does that convert to in centimeters?

In México they don't go by inches, so how do I tell my fiancé what size pics he needs to take?

Thanks!!

It's 5.08 cm. I am quite sure that 5x5cm will be fine.

Yep. They are not that picky. Whatever is the usual passport size for your country will be okay. We got our pictures done in the Philippines, and they were much smaller than the US size, but we had no problem, either with the USCIS, or with the embassy in Manila.

In Mongolia, most photo shops have a "US Visa Size" which they advertise... and if I remember correctly, it was 5cm by 5cm.

It's probably better to be safe and get as close to the correct size as possible, as it's possible that the leniency described in the above post varies by the worker adjudicating your case, and it would stink to get an RFE because your photo is a couple of cm too small.

I might mention, a foolproof way to do this is to get a digital picture, and have it printed the proper size in the US. It also saves on shipping costs. That's how I did it, anyway.

What would Xenu do?

The US embassies usually list it as 5x5cm in their instructions. In any case, pretty much any shop that will make passport photos will know what a US type photo should be. Don't tell them the specs, just tell them you want a photo for a US visa, and they'll know what to do.

It is 5x5 cm and you can usually tell them you need US size passport photos, especially if getting them done in Juarez near the consulate, and they should know to do them 5x5.
