Kosher meat is kosher for keeping kosher, but not always kosher for keeping halal. Mileage, it will vary.

Most muslim people now own farms here in US. Your husband can go and halal the goat/lamb and even chickens himself :) This is what we do sometimes too. We also buy from muslim groceries store. There are lots of muslim groceries stores/farms in Virginia & Maryland area.

Really? Most of us own farms here?

I don't have a farm. What am I doing wrong?

Ya know the sad thing is, when we go out to eat at some of the local buffets, I never realized just how much bacon was used in the food itself for flavoring and the pig lard to fry chicken and fish in. Im not saying all places do, but how does one know if pig lard is not being used. We have a place here called golden coral, one evening, I was, debating on fish or chicken to eat, the lady putting out the food said go ahead honey its fried in lard just like in the good old days. Mohammed couldnt even eat the green beans, because of course there was ham pieces in them. Idk, even after two years, its still hard for my husband to trust what he is eating outside the home.

My husband was asking if its easy for me to find halal meat (when he finally arrives here!) Can anyone give me some ideas where I can find it, do they sell it in the grocery stores, are their some brands that are halal? For example Perdue? I hope this isn't going to be something that's difficult to find , I would like to make him as comfortable as possible.

Hi Destiny,

First just ignore this commment that says " there is no Halal meet in the US"

how crazy is that!! O_o

Anyway, Yes there are Halal stores in every area and every stores. just googel " Halal Store or middle eastern stores or pakistani afghani stores" and you will find everything you want.

Just a point for your husband, he can eat the regular meat too, tell him do not stuck on Halal only cuz its more expensive and soetimes hard to find.

also tell ur husband its permissble in Islam to eat regular meat and you say "Bism Allah before you eat and that is t"

how nice of you to do ur best for ur husband not to feel homesick or uncomfortable. :)

The Imam said,

Its a persoal thing, each person has his own reason. So, I just asked my husband ...his reasoning is this. A verse in the Koran:

Sura 5. Al Maida 5.4 and 5.5

So I guess it is a personal choice.

SALEM,just I want to explain something to you. This verse "aya" does not speak at all for the possibility to eat any non halal meat once you have said "bismillah", The name of God Here "bismillah" means that it must be said at the time of slaughter, and it is forbidden for any Muslim to eat meat not slaughtered according to Islamic law. This is what God ordered us in saying "forbidden you dead and blood and pork and the people of God ... to the end of aya" , and he also said "Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah, that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is impiety. This day have those who reject Faith given up all hope of your religion: yet fear them not but fear me" so we understand that the God said "forbidden" not just "bismillah and eat" if that was the case there would be no need for hallal stores

PS: just read the "aya" before number 4 i mean number 3 its very clear when the God said ""forbidden"" salem

Check with the hubby first as not all Muslims agree with this.

I do agree though that it is very nice and sweet for you to check ahead! :star:

Oh  I don't think that's true ! Just saying bism Allah before eating regular meat doesn't make meat halal according to Islamic standards anywhere in the world. That's in case if you are unsure about meat is halal or not, then it may work. Otherwise an animal has to be slaughtered in an Islamic way.

And Muslims usually say Bism Allah anyway before they start eating. People just make up reasons according to their desires. They are ignorant.Because they can't always find a halal pizza hut, kfc, subway etc.
