Hi, I was reading alot of your posts here. Can I ask if you and your husband live like those amish people I saw and never eat outisde your home. You speak In other posts about subway, and how your food may touch bacon. I would think that would be at any place where food is served. Right?

Sure, you may ask! And yes you are right, it would be the case at any place that is a non-halal restaurant.

We mainly eat at home because we both like to cook, we know things are fresh and what is going into our meals. Also it helps with the pocketbook! :)

But when we do go out we look for halal only restaurants. There are a handful here in our area. Fast food places like Subway, etc. are convenient for sure, but not really for us.

I can't speak for Medroni here, but let me just jump in and say, my husband (we) do not eat out often at all, he absolutely will not eat any food that has previously touched pork , been cooked in the same pan as pork, even if it is sterilized and even pizza hut has pork flavoring in their sauce. He won't even wear leather made from the pig or touch his body. He will not serve to anyone either. People tend to eat mindlessly unaware of what the ingredients are, they just know it taste delicious. I am not saying pork doesn't taste good I'm just saying its not good for you, and most Americans consume this without a second thought and because its cheap, the good news we are not the worst country in fact we are number 18 the number 1 country in pork consumption is Denmark and the Scandinavian countries. After my marriage, for a gift lol my wife surprised me with a freezer the size i have never seen before in my country filled with lamb, cow, chicken. i guess its enough to feed 20 families in morocco. She ordered it from a halal market in houston somewhere. My wife travels alot as a flight nurse and is very tired when she come, home. I try to,stay busy at our, home. I Like the show HGTV on cable and decided to build her a fire place and sitting area outside so she can come home and relax and eat all that meat she got for me. I,hope she like, her new garden i made for her yesterday, took me nine hours,to dig a area for her to grow some vegetable.

On what basis, other than religiously, is pork "bad" for anyone in ways that other meat isn't? That's patently false, and it's nothing to do with why I don't eat it.

Actually I am so glad you ask this questions because I do have the reasons. I too stopped eating pork a long time ago and it had nothing to do with religion at the time, it was because I had the opportunity to visit a swine confinement and unaware at the time after doing research I did find out all the reasons pork is bad to eat. Before I list those reasons though I would like to reiterate a religious point.

Here are some facts on pork that prove it to be a very unhealthy food to eat:

Redball.gif

A pig is a real garbage gut. It will eat anything including urine, excrement, dirt, decaying animal flesh, maggots, or decaying vegetables. They will even eat the cancerous growths off other pigs or animals.

Redball.gif

The meat and fat of a pig absorbs toxins like a sponge. Their meat can be 30 times more toxic than beef or venison.

Redball.gif

When eating beef or venison, it takes 8 to 9 hours to digest the meat so what little toxins are in the meat are slowly put into our system and can be filtered by the liver. But when pork is eaten, it takes only 4 hours to digest the meat. We thus get a much higher level of toxins within a shorter time.

Redball.gif

Unlike other mammals, a pig does not sweat or perspire. Perspiration is a means by which toxins are removed from the body. Since a pig does not sweat, the toxins remain within its body and in the meat.

Redball.gif

Pigs and swine are so poisonous that you can hardly kill them with strychnine or other poisons.

Redball.gif

Farmers will often pen up pigs within a rattlesnake nest because the pigs will eat the snakes, and if bitten they will not be harmed by the venom.

Redball.gif

When a pig is butchered, worms and insects take to its flesh sooner and faster than to other animal's flesh. In a few days the swine flesh is full of worms.

Redball.gif

Swine and pigs have over a dozen parasites within them, such as tapeworms, flukes, worms, and trichinae. There is no safe temperature at which pork can be cooked to ensure that all these parasites, their cysts, and eggs will be killed.

Redball.gif

Pig meat has twice as much fat as beef. A 3 oz T bone steak contains 8.5 grams of fat; a 3 oz pork chop contains 18 grams of fat. A 3 oz beef rib has 11.1 grams of fat; a 3 oz pork spare rib has 23.2 grams of fat.

Cows have a complex digestive system, having four stomachs. It thus takes over 24 hours to digest their vegetarian diet causing its food to be purified of toxins. In contrast, the swine's one stomach takes only about 4 hours to digest its foul diet, turning its toxic food into flesh.

The swine carries about 30 diseases which can be easily passed to humans. This is why God commanded that we are not even to touch their carcass (Leviticus 11:8).

The trichinae worm of the swine is microscopically small, and once ingested can lodge itself in our intestines, muscles, spinal cord or the brain. This results in the disease trichinosis. The symptoms are sometimes lacking, but when present they are mistaken for other diseases, such as typhoid, arthritis, rheumatism, gastritis, MS, meningitis, gall bladder trouble, or acute alcoholism.

The pig is so poisonous and filthy, that nature had to prepare him a sewer line or canal running down each leg with an outlet in the bottom of the foot. Out of this hole oozes pus and filth his body cannot pass into its system fast enough. Some of this pus gets into the meat of the pig.y virus Each of these parasites and viruses can lead to serious health problems that can last for years to come.

No matter how you think about it, pigs are a rather dirty animal. They are considered the scavengers of the farm (created to eliminate any waste on the farm), often eating anything they can find. This includes not only bugs, insects, and whatever leftover scraps they find laying around, but also their own feces, as well as the dead carcasses of sick animals, including their own young.

This in itself can explain why the meat of the pig can be so dirty or at the very least not so appetizing to consume. And while being ‘grossed out’ may or may not be a valid reason not to eat something it’s vital to understand a bit more about pork before reaching your own conclusion.

Pork 101: Know the Facts

Pork is one of the most consumed meats in the world. China is the largest producer of pigs that were first domesticated way back around 7500 B.C.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that more than 100 viruses come to the United States each year from China through pigs. There are some obvious concerns about this. Aside from not needing more viruses to fight off, some of these viruses can prove to be downright dangerous to humans.

Of course, you’re probably familiar with H1N1, better known as ‘the swine flu.” This too is a virus that has made the leap from pig to human.

But H1N1 is not the only disease to fear from the pig. There are other sicknesses you can get from eating the meat of the pig.

Pork meat is loaded with toxins, more so than most other meats like beef and chicken.

Is Pork Meat Toxic?

There are reasons that the meat of the pig becomes more saturated with toxins than many of its counterpart farm animals. The first reason has to do with the digestive system of a pig.

A pig digests whatever it eats rather quickly, in up to about four hours. On the other hand a cow takes a good twenty-four hours to digest what it’s eaten. During the digestive process, animals (including humans) get rid of excess toxins as well as other components of the food eaten that could be dangerous to health.

Since the pig’s digestive system operates rather basically, many of these toxins remain in their system to be stored in their more than adequate fatty tissues ready for our consumption.

Another issue with the pig is that it doesn’t have any sweat glands. Sweat glands are a tool the body uses to be rid of toxins. This leaves more toxins in the pig’s body.

I don’t have to tell you that when you consume pork meat, you too are getting all these toxins that weren’t eliminated from the pig. None of us need more toxins in our systems. In fact we should all be doing what we can to eliminate and cut down on toxin exposure. One vital way to do this is by choosing what you eat carefully.

Trichinellosis, Pork Meat, and Your Health

Did you know that pigs carry a variety of parasites in their bodies and meat? Some of these parasites are difficult to kill even when cooking. This is the reason there are so many warnings out there about eating undercooked pork.

One of the biggest concerns with eating pork meat is trichinellosis or trichinosis. This is an infection that humans get from eating undercooked or uncooked pork that contains the larvae of the trichinella worm.

This worm parasite is very commonly found in pork. When the worm, most often living in cysts in the stomach, opens through stomach acids, its larvae are released into the body of the pig. These new worms make their homes in the muscles of the pig. Next stop? The unknowing human body who consumes this infected meat flesh.

And while no one particularly wants to consume worms, trichinellosis is a serious illness that you should do virtually anything to avoid.

Common Symptoms of Trichinellosis:

Nausea

Vomiting

Diarrhea

Headache

Fever

Chills

Cough

Swollen eyes

Muscle pain

Aching joints

Coordination problems

Heart issues

Breathing problems

These symptoms of trichinellosis can really put you out of the game for quite a while. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) these symptoms can last for weeks and in more serious cases months on end.

The CDC recommends thorough cooking of pork as well as freezing the pork meat prior to cooking to kill off any worms. I don’t know about you, but I don’t feel good about eating anything that I first have to kill off its worms to eat.

In fact, it’s been theorized that trichinellosis is the exact cause of Mozart’s rather sudden death at age 35. An American researcher theorized this after studying all the documents recording the days before, during, and after Mozart’s death. He found that Mozart suffered many of the above listed symptoms and he, himself, had recorded in his journal the consumption of pork just forty-four days before his own death.

(If you want to read more on this intriguing story you can find it in the Archives of Internal Medicine’s June 2001 issue.)

But that’s not all….

Pigs carry many viruses and parasites with them. Whether by coming in direct contact with them through farms or by eating their meat we put ourselves at higher risk of getting one of these painful, often debilitating diseases (not to mention put our bodies on toxic overload.)

Pigs are primary carriers of:

Taenia solium tapeworm

Hepatitis E virus (HEV)

PRRS (Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome)

Nipah virus

Menangle virus

Each of these parasites and viruses can lead to serious health problems that can last for years to come.

What you choose to eat is up to you. Myself, I choose to stay away from unclean pork. The reasons discussed here are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to eating pigs and your health.

Do your own research, carefully, then make your own educated decision about what you choose to feed yourself and your loved ones.

Pigs are only as dirty living as the conditions their owners provide for them. Cows, goats, and chickens are all every bit as dirty when kept in grubby conditions. They're also just as potentially full of pathogens that can make their human consumers very sick. Raw milk is perfectly halal, but can and has spread infections like strep, and TB, and has killed people due to E. coli etc.

I don't eat pigs because the Quran says not to do so. Nor do I spread lies or misinformation about an animal that even though I am not allowed to eat it was still created by Allah.

Allah knows best. He knew it was a dirty animal and not good for our health therefore he ordered us not to eat it. Simple as that. I like you attitude. We hear and obey :-)

Sorry, I don't do random gibberish with zero basis in actual science.

Well you ask so I gave answers, sorry if they did not meet your expectations. Do you raise pigs?

Oh, it met my expectations alright, given that you answered. What it didn't meet is my standards for like facts and stuff.

Cut and paste text walls of junk science,

No, I don't raise pigs. I've seen them at the county fair though.

Then why are lots of things that can just as easily be harmful to health totally allowed then, if that's the reason?
