The NRA needs to replace the word "soda" with "7 round magazines" and apply the ruling to their challenge of the ridiculous new gun law.

Finally some common sense

I believe it was a serious lack of common sense and personal responsibility on behalf of consumers that promted this soda law in the first place. If people could show a little semblance of common sense and self control when purchasing food items, nothing like this would ever be considered. It's protecting irresponsible people from themselves. How many responsible people really buy a 32oz Big Gulp?

I'm a big fan of natural selection, but unfortunately in this day and age we don't operate that way. We protect stupid people from themselves and in turn everyone pays for their mistakes.

But where does it stop? You just can't legislate common sense. People have to bear responsibility for their actions and it is not the government role to get into that.

Bet he doesn't use his own money to do it. He will use NY taxpayer money to attempt to strip them of their rights. Nice guy.

Something you NEVER hear in Vermont..."I could be in New York in 20 minutes if it were not for that damn lake!"

He could use his own money and educate the public on the issues with diabetes. That would be more effective instead of the ban.

Unfortunately, we have to legislate common sense in some cases, stupidity and irresponsibility are an epidemic. Where it ends, I don't know.

How do you suggest we hold someone responsible for irresponsible eating habits that causes them to be overweight and unhealthy, costing the responsible people millions in health care costs?

Higher insurance premiums, or taxes (or a refund if you meet some predetermined health metrics). Not that I advocate any of that, but it could be possible.

I agree with you, but a lot of folks say it's unfair to penalize someone for being overweight. I think everyone should be required to meet a specific weight group based on their body type. If you don't fall into your weight group, your rates go up. That would be the responsible thing to do as a society, but then you have the folks who don't want the gov't involved in your personal life.

Usually the same folks that say it's unfair to penalize someone for being overweight or it's an invasion of privacy to monitor a persons health, are the first folks to bytch when their health insurance rates go up. Go figure.

Here's the thing. I'm all for freedom of choice when it comes to food but unfortunately people keep making the wrong choice. And its way cheaper and easier for lower income people to buy unhealthy food. My issue is that my freedom to not pay taxes into medicare for a completely avoidable problem (obesity) is always going to be ignored. And the rate of taxes into medicare is likely going to go up when low income people (assuming they're not insured)continue to make bad decisions. Clearly the freedom of choice is not working, look at obesity rates in America. Maybe we need a few boundaries.

What would have made sense is ban this stuff from school cafeterias all together. Kids lack common sense.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I'm all for promoting good health, but the only real effect of this so-called soda ban would be to force people who want larger quantities of soda to buy it in smaller packages, which have a higher unit price. It would increase the soda company's profits and increase the consumer's expenditures.

Girl scout cookies has plenty of sugar. Should he not try to limit intake by portion control?

Uh yeah obesity in lower income countries is much lower than obesity in higher income countries. Just wanted to point that out. You may continue.

So your in favor of letting all those who make bad choices in life fend for themselves and stopping the massive government entitlement programs and stop making all taxpayers pay for the mistakes of others.
