Vaccination Record Incomplete

Greetings, fellow VJers.

I have not been active on here for a while as we have been in limbo for a long time but we have started to get all of our documents together ready for the medical and interview process so now I have a query I am hoping you will help me with.

The kids and I finally completed all of our shots and I eventually got the surgery to print off and provide me with the vaccination records for all of us. We have been with that same medical surgery for 10 years so the print outs for all four of my kids were the complete list. The sheet for me, however, only lists the shots I have had while at that surgery, I guess because they did not computerise my old handwritten notes.

Is this going to be a problem? Do I need to get my surgery to transcribe handwritten documentation about childhood vaccinations? I don't know how amenable the surgery would be to doing this. Has anyone else experienced this hiccup and found it to be a problem at the medical?

Thanks!

Best wishes

Laura

I believe the only vaccines you need as an adult will be the MMR and the TD ones, save the flu one in season. If you have proof of those, then you are good to go.

Childhood vaccinations are probably not that useful. The DTP variation has to be within the last 10 years, so a shot you had as a baby doesn't keep you from needing Tdap or Td. While two doses of MMR is on the UK schedule now, if you are older than 25, you may not have had it as a baby as it began in 1988 and not two doses. If you think you have proof of 2 doses of MMR for school, then ask for them to look for that. Otherwise get one dose less than 4 weeks before your medical exam and dose 2 will be waived for "insufficient time interval". It will be past flu season by the time of your medical so influenza will be waived too. They take your word of having chickenpox to skip varicella. And for CR1s in the UK a waiver for "not routinely available" is also given if you don't report having chickenpox. That covers your shots. Any other childhood shots are non-essential information for immigration except the ones I put in bold.

Thank you for your reassuring replies.

I had assumed that would be the case but I also know that with this process it is never safe to assume anything.

I have had both doses of MMR and am up to date on Tetanus etc so I fulfil all of the things on the checklist. My medical will be out of flu season (unless this really drags on!) so that is irrelevant now and all five of us have had chicken pox so can get that waived for that reason as well as it being unavailable. My kids are up to date on all their shots and have had all three courses of the additional Hepatitis vaccine required now.

Looks like we are good to go as far as the medical is concerned now.

Cheers!

What kind of record do you have of diphtheria and pertussis since you only mentioned tetanus? It's all three of those in Tdap. Or if you have had pertussis part, a booster of Td. The D, T, and P need to be accounted for. I haven't heard anybody mention it lately, but when my K1 went to the GP with the list, his doc said you only need a tetanus shot. When he got to Knightsbridge, the said he was missing the Diptheria and Pertussis components. His surgery gave him the DTP baby version because they didn't have Tdap. Then they faxed the info back to Knightsbridge. (Capital letters means bigger dose of the component but Td, Tdap, DT, DTP or DtaP are all acceptable.)

I wrote Tetanus etc because I couldn't remember what the other ones were in that shot. It is probably easier if I just transcribe what my print out says:

Mumps Stage B

Rubella Stage B

Measles Stage B

Mumps Stage 1

Rubella Stage 1

Measles Stage 1

Polio Stage B

Tetanus Stage B

Diptheria Stage B

There is nothing about Pertussis and, to be honest, I don't know if I have ever had that one. If I am reading the chart on the Knightsbridge Doctors link then I don't think I need the Pertussis shot because I am an adult.

So am I reading correctly that I am covered with everything I need?

Thanks

Laura

No clue Laura what you are looking at Laura. Tdap contains pertussis and is on the list for adults. It says Tdap/Td

If you had pertussis jab ever, then Td is the booster. If you don't know, the Tdap is given. Maybe Knightsbridge will assume you had a pertussis jab as a child since it's routine in the UK. Then your Td booster is enough. They aren't too strict these days.

Info on Tdap/Td from the CDC http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/vis/downloads/vis-td-tdap.pdf

So did your husband get a job he wanted? You haven't been around so I was wondering if the move was on or off.

I just don't know which of the various combinations of shot I was given since they have listed the disease I was vaccinated against rather than the type of shot used and, to be honest, the kids had so many shots to get that all had to be timetabled that I lost track of what I myself was being given. I had all of my childhood vaccinations so if pertussis was given routinely then it would only be the booster I needed. I guess since my surgery has said they have given me ever extra shot I need then all I can do is hope Knightsbridge agrees and, failing that, have to shell out for an additional shot if required.

I didn't actually know if anyone would remember me! I have been quiet on here because we have just been in limbo and treading water for a while during my husband's job search. Federal Departments all but froze their hiring because of the fiscal cliff and any job he did apply for he would get to a certain stage and then be told he had been filtered out because of the preference for military veterans and extant federal employees. Just not enough jobs to go around. So then he started focusing more on the private sector and he has gotten quite far in that process. That is why we are now back to firing on all cylinders. We also had to wait for the kids to be given their final Hep shot in late February before we could start preparing all of our medical stuff. Basically we have just been moving like molasses.

Thanks for your replies

Laura

As far as I know, pertussis is not needed for adults. Our panel physician said we didn't need it, only the TD.
