I am interested in finding some unique honeymoon destinations. They can be anywhere, the U.S., Canada, Europe, Southeast Asia, etc....

Please avoid cliches if at all possible (i.e. Paris, Hawaii, Disneyworld, etc...)

I'm looking for some fresh out of the ordinary ideas like Gatlinburg, TN, Portland, ME, Costa Rica, and more. The hubby and I are looking to go on a belated honeymoon later this year.

Please share your destinations! cool.gif

I am the petitioner.

We stayed in a gorgeous house at Big White, BC, Canada for a few days. Over 5k sq feet with hot tub, media room, and best kitchen ever. It was off season because our wedding was in May, but for couples who like hot tubs and fun in the snow, I recommend a ski resort like Big White.

Harlingen, Texas. Good base of operations for much fun. Can get there on Southwest Airlines (the best) or United. Equidistant (almost) between Brownsville & McAllen. Best hotel is Country Inn & Suites. Harlingen has a downtown market the first weekend of every month. Beyond Brownsville is South Padre Island. West of Harlingen, south on Rd. 1015, is the border crossing to Nuevo Progreso, Mexico. Park on the U.S. side, walk <400 paces across the footbridge, and shop like a ####### for 6 blocks. Outstanding shops, restaurants; dentists & pharmacies seemingly every other door; and an absolutely grand time. Many "winter Texans" there, October through April. Never a lick of trouble. Upon one's crossing back over, the CBP agents are friendly enough but particular (papers in order; definitely declare all declarable purchases).

I'm going through extremely serious "Mexico withdrawal" -- haven't been there for 13 months -- and am itching to make a beeline to Nvo. Progreso, si man. My amigos (merchants, shoeshine dudes, pharmacists, dentists) are probably wondering where the heck I've been, sigh man.

I've always wanted to rent a car, drive across to park & shop in Nvo. Progreso, then continue a bit south and turn right on Federal Hwy. 2 to drive about 25 miles to Gustavo Diaz Ordaz (an unspoiled city) and cross back over on the hand-drawn ferry. Would need to confirm river conditions first to see if ferry is running, however. If ferry unavailable, would continue to Ciudad Camargo and cross back there.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

My husband has always wanted to go to Canada. We were close when we went to Niagara Falls and almost crossed the border but this was at the time when I knew nothing about immigration and visas so we had no idea what the rules were as far as re-entry into the U.S.

I just looked at some pics of Big White. Now that's mountains! Absolutely beautiful!

I had some friends rent a large sail boat and sail Lake Superior for a week.

That is a very interesting idea! I've never been to Lake Superior. Being from Pennsylvania, we're stuck with scummy Lake Erie laughing.gif

I have pictures of the house we stayed in :) And of all the mountain ranges (including the Rockies) from BC to Alberta. LOL My husband loves mountains!

Or you could look at the website:

If you don't mind renting a house, I've gone thru VRBO a few times and it's always worked out really well.

My mom tells me about Harlingen all the time. It's one of her favorite overnights (she's a flight attendant).

That's Mexico that way we would like to experience it. No Cancun or Cozumel for us no0pb.gif

Backpacking trip in the White Mountains?

We went to Edisto Beach, SC for our "honeymoon". It's a very quiet beach, not at all like Myrtle or Daytona. Good food, some nice walks, and plenty of space. Savannah is gorgeous for a honeymoonish-type trip. Lots of people go to Charleston, SC, which is where I'm from. Amazing food, gorgeous houses and scenery. For our official honeymoon (since I was pregnant when we got married and everything was rush-changed to July 2011 from March 2012) we went on a family trip to Derbyshire, England (we went to Chatsworth, which stood in for Pemberley in the most recent Pride and Prejudice) for a week, and then Hubs and I went to Paris for a 4-day weekend a month later while my in-laws kept Sophie. What about New Orleans? Or go to Tunica, Mississippi for the casinos and make a day (or two) trip up to Memphis and see Graceland and Beale Street. Northern Ireland is beautiful beyond imagination. We were in Cushendall and I seriously had to pinch myself because it was so stunning. Go see the Giant's Causeway, visit the Bushmills distillery. Walk the rope bridge. Eat some truly memorable fish and chips. Brussels is amazing. See the Mannequin Pis, eat a waffle, and tour the Royal Palace. They even speak English and drive on the proper side of the road!

It's a long flight and an expensive destination, but the Seychelles are incredible. Fantasy-like atmosphere and incredible beaches.

Think lounging on the beach with giant tortoises lumbering around, waiting for you to pluck leaves off the trees to feed them.

My favorite and most memorable destination to date.

As a TN native, don't bother with Gatlinburg.

I wanted to go to Greece, but the boy said no. I'll go wherever though, as long as he's with me. /cheese

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

We honeymooned in Scotland on the Isle of Skye. It was really pretty. We stayed in rebuilt croft houses at Mary's cottages in Elgol and wed in Portree.

The views are like no place I've ever seen.

Some other trips we've taken would also be nice for honeymoon.

Grotto Bay Bermuda-we loved it and are going back this year

The Amish Farm and suites resort in Pennsylvania was lovely. The whole area is so different and the food is amazing.

The Amish and Menonites live and work in the area so you see buggies everyplace.

Niagara falls on the US side. We went over to Canada but it was very commercialized and cheeseball with stuff like Ripley's believe it or not.

The US side was pretty. The Maid of the Mist tour was incredible.

Old Port in Portland Maine is really cool. We also love Ogunquit and Wells area and Boothbay harbor, Rockland and Camden and Belfast. The Gorges Grant or one of thier other properties are nice and a short walk to restaurants, shops and perkins cove. We rented a cottage in Searsport one summer. It's secluded but near Belfast.

The Indian Head resort in NH was nice. North Conway, Loon Mountain or Bretton Woods are also very nice.
