Question about a potential SSN

Hello all, I'm seeking the collective wisdom of this forum for a question I have about I-129F and G-325A forms that we are in the process of trying to complete. My fiancee was in the US many years ago on a J-1 visa and believes she applied for a US social security number at the time but never received it and did not end up working for that potential employer so she has no record or confirmation that one was ever even issued. So I'm confused as to what I should enter in the SSN section of these two forms. We are in no way misrepresenting but I'm uncertain as to whether we should leave it blank, say none or unknown? I imagine an unknown raises questions? Is there an easy way for her to find out if she was issued one or can you only do that in person at a SSA office which is not an option for us? I've searched through the boards but can't find anyone with a similar situation. those who asked about it, knew their number and entered it.

I would say unknown and attach an explanation sheet. Your explanation erases any suspicions.

I don't think she can get information about this from abroad and you certainly can't get info on her possible SSN on her behalf (you are not married, privacy, etc).

Did she work at all when she was there on a J1 visa? If she did (legally) then she must have been issued a SSN. I was also in the USA in 2009 on a J1 visa but couldn't find my SNN, then I accidentally came across it in the last minute. Anyway, I agree that you should write unknown and explain.

Good answer. Do this. The SSN is not a material issue for the K-1 visa, but you do not want to appear to be concealing something. You don't know what the number is, if any, and have no way to determine that now. Good enough

I would write: Applied for SSN while on a J1 visa in (year) but did not receive it. It should be enough.

On just the I-129F? or also the G-325A. The G-325A says to put it (if any).

Thanks, not intending to be deliberately dense!

Attach the explanation to both forms, it cannot do any harm :star:

If she has None, then write None
