so we got an RFE.

they're asking for 2011 taxes and 2012 taxes. i guess i'm wondering, since we file with turbotax and its 50 zillion pages, would just the first page be ok to send?( along with w2s and all that other stuff) it has all the pertinent information on it or should i print out the whole thing to send?

also, i have leases from the start of our marriage to current. i was just going to print the first and last page of those as well because they're also 50 zillion pages.

last,

The house we are renting we're currently in the process of buying. i wanted to include the purchase agreement and part of the loan application. again, i don't want to send in the entire massive document...well, because its massive. do you think it would be ok to send a few pages plus the signature pages, i also want to include the earnest money check because it has both our names on it.

if i include complete documents my RFE reply will be over 200 pages. but will not including them hurt me.

has anyone had experience with this?

Get transcripts from IRS.

Either get them online: http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Order-a-Transcript or get them at a local IRS office.

No, they want the complete tax return, not just the first page (!).

A tax return shouldn't be 200 pages - that sounds like Turbotax goofiness. (Unless you are itemizing all of your receipts or something). A Tax return transcript as mentioned above will be much shorter.

It is best to walk into a local IRS office and get 2011 & 2012 IRS Tax Transcripts - you can get it in a day. It will not be bulky and USCIS prefers the transcripts. By all mean send them a copy of the purchase agreement.

To expound further on your copy of "Tax" returns versus transcripts. Regular printed out Tax returns can be modified and easily manipulated! If you send original Tax Transcripts, preferred by the USCIS, it verifies as to what you sent the IRS, and what you are promising is true and above board by federal law. And, it is most likely very easy for USCIS to validate the Tax Transcripts against what was reported directly to the IRS. In other words, it would probably be easier for them to follow-up and corroborate the matching of the documents, numbers, and filling status.

Do you guys send the original tax transcripts that arrived in the mail from IRS, or COPY of the tax transcripts?

Thanks!

You should make a copy of the tax transcripts and keep the ones sent to you. Treat those as Originals and follow the rules USCIS states for submitting documents. The rule is unless specifically asking for originals, send a COPY of the documents. In the worst case if you have to build another filing for whatever reason, you will have the Original transcripts to make copies of again.

(I know that the paper versions that arrive by mail appear to be xerox copies also. Just call them your originals and file them away.)

Good luck.
