Let's see. I have averaged about 2800 dollars per year of paying into SS. My employers have matched that. Assuming I had put that into a private IRA and averaged 5.5 % for 45 years I would have well over a million dollars in savings. At retirement I will reicieve about 22K per year.

It would take me until the age of 110 to get my money back assuming it drew no return the whole time I am retired.

That sounds like a real entitlement and government assistance to me... NOT

My father always complained about having to pay in to social security. He had a significantly above average income but in spite of that, he invested little until late in life. He got back much more from SS than he did from his IRA. He marveled at how much he got and how good a thing SS actually turned out to be. This is true for most people, especially those making poverty or near poverty wages. They may be unable to pay their rent, electric bills, or put food on the table. You think they are going to pay money into some large bank for their retirement?!

As for urban people. That is simply because they are scamming the system. The rural people are working poor who are generally not into crime and drugs. Kind of like coal miners daughter vs New jack city .

Not all "urban people" are scamming the system. You should really draw a comparison before you lump all of them into one group. Maybe the ones you've seen( I was going to say know but something tells me you probably don't associate with them outside of work) but that list is not conclusive.

Carla Caldwell, Morning Call Editor The 60,000 people expected for a three-day “The Dukes of Hazzard” reunion in Byron, Ga., could steer $1 million to the area’s economy, a chamber official told the Macon Telegraph.

The “Dukes of Hazzard” Georgia Reunion, Classic Car Show and Music Festival is Friday through Sunday at the former Middle Georgia Raceway, 4015 U.S. 41 North. Among the highlights is a concert Friday by country singer David Allen Coe and a classic car show with more than 500 cars, the newspaper reports. Cast members of the iconic television series will sign autographs Saturday.

“Between the hotels, gas stations and restaurants, I would place an economic impact over the three-day period of anywhere from $700,000 to $1 million,” Perry Swanson, president of the Peach County Chamber of Commerce, told The Telegraph. “Of course, we don’t know how it’s going to turn out.”

Byron Mayor Larry Collins said he’s hopeful the festival will bring positive attention and money to the city.

“The economy has been down,” said Collins. “This could be like Christmas in March.”

Festival organizers say seven of the television program’s original cast members will be there, including Bo (John Schneider), Luke (Tom Wopat) and Daisy (Catherine Bach).

The program aired on CBS from 1979 to 1985.

Why don't you pull a slam-dunk and provide an example of a low-crime, low unemployment, and independent area populated by "urban people" (your words not mine). I will help you by selecting a state with a high violent crime rates. I picked a red state. It seems fairer.

Can you explain why we don't have to even check the voting results to know that the county rates that spike above the surrounding/similar counties in violent crimes are blue counties? Would you like a follow-up with means-tested benefits payments by county? Freeloading and crime rates and voting patterns all trend together.

I've been putting up since I stepped in this board, I am against folks scamming the system like any other hard working person. But unlike you, I don't use numbers to justify racism.

What you are asking for doesn't exist within the black community, why? Because anywhere there is low unemployment you will have crime. But here's the key; there is a huge difference between urban and rural areas.

I've seen this up close and personal, and I know that you have folks of all color on government assistance that wish they weren't and could get a job. I also know there are those that abuse the system shamelessly. But you seem to confuse some for all, and it's insulting to the folks that need that help to support their families.

I even favor removing the cap on the income subjected to SS taxes, even though I would pay in substantially more. It would secure the future of SS for the foreseeable future and beyond.

I generally think any new taxes are bad. But I've never understood that cap.

No one is arguing that there is violence within urban communities, I have said this many times, hell I come from one of the most dangerous cities in the US and I know that there are many different factors that play into why things are like that. But I know that being a certain color doesn't detonate your actions, but your environment might. And I know that it will take a lot of work to get rid of the crime and poverty that destroys these neighborhood.
