how many men do you know that spend 50 bucks on getting their nails done.

you have a prejudice against people who receive welfare benefits. it's obvious in your posts. i can't explain anything to you while you've got that chip on your shoulder.

Your right I do have a prejudice against people who generation after generation have made welfare and food stamps a way of life. I make no bones about that

You mentioned cell phones to call their baby daddy. You added the baby daddy part, so you were not talking about men, were you?

The funny thing is, no matter how much you want to deny your prejudice, you're still wrong. The majority of people who receive government assistance are nothing like what you describe. But you have an image of who these people are in your head and you'll believe that no matter what.

As for the nice cars, were you complaining about this ten years ago? Or would you rather pretend this is a new development?

Nice chart. Take out Social security, Medicare, and get back with me. I am talking means tested benefits. .

I hate actually working here, I miss all the good topics :innocent:

We all know who the middle class is, sorry, but you tend to lean(heavily I might add)on the stereotype of black people being the only ones that recieve gov't assistance. You don't use examples that fit any other demographic(bady daddy is more associated with blacks, blacks are more likely to spend that much money on nails). I know where you live and that might be the norm in your neighborhood and others. But if you want to convey your message without the racial overtones, it would be more effective.

I have never mentioned race or sex in any post. "You people "-1are the ones that assign sex and ethnicity to everything I say. Maybe I should add footnotes for the slow and race baiters.. Like this

1- ref: you people used in this example is used solely to mean the collective group in the Visa Journey PR forum, and more specifically those that tend to lean to the left. In no shape form or fashion should you people be taken as a euphemism for any race or minority.

SS retirement is an entitlement program and is government assistance. It was never a retirement account you paid into, you are paying for those already on the program. It was created because so many old people were impoverished and is welfare. Separating out how you're taxed for this welfare program, does not make it not a welfare program. In reality, we should be including unemployment and corporate welfare in any debate on the merits and can we afford to do this.

Here's a good site that compiled some direct government payment statistics. Some things are shocking, and other things dispel many myths.

http://www.statistic...are-statistics/

Let's see. I have averaged about 2800 dollars per year of paying into SS. My employers have matched that. Assuming I had put that into a private IRA and averaged 5.5 % for 45 years I would have well over a million dollars in savings. At retirement I will reicieve about 22K per year.

It would take me until the age of 110 to get my money back assuming it drew no return the whole time I am retired.

That sounds like a real entitlement and government assistance to me... NOT

i hope you have the same prejudice towards generational wealth as you do generational poverty.

Do you read what you post after you write it? At least 4 people in this thread alone called you out about it. And that was before I even got into the thread.

You seem to suffer from a form of passive racism, not overall all minorities, but it's still there. Just like you always use urban terms to describe those on government assistance. And what's worse is the folks that are calling you out aren't black. They can see it just like I can. I hope you can see that, because when you talk you have some good points when you're not trying to offend/insult a certain demographic.

Your arithmetic is off a little. Using your numbers You would receive your portion back in less than 6 years. I don't know how long you have been working, but employers only made matching payments since sometime when Reagan was president. That would add another 5-6 years to get back what your employer paid. If you have an average life expectancy, you would get 3-4 times what you paid in as a payroll deduction.

Funny how every person who found a problem with the post isn't on government assistance, has a job, and pays taxes. But then again, "birds of a feather, flock together."

As for urban people. That is simply because they are scamming the system. The rural people are working poor who are generally not into crime and drugs. Kind of like coal miners daughter vs New jack city .

The Republican party was so confused when they got thumped in November and most don't realize this is why. The alienating, divisive comments that don't have a basis in reality but gets them emotionally fired up.

Sure, you lost because people like free stuff. Keep that attitude and see where it gets you in 2016. Yikes.

Whats not to like about free stuff?

Ronnie was prez almost 30 years ago. I would get back about 130K in 6 years. There is no way I could ever get back what I would have if I had all my contributions in a ira.

Maybe. Maybe not. SS is a virtually no risk investment with a fair return. With the market, you take your chances. I have been playing catch-up in the market since 2008.

Your numbers are misleading. You talk about your 'average' SS contribution of 2200 yearly. Only problem is that in the early years, when the magnifying effect of compound interest is greatest, you probably paid in substantially less each year. Most of us see our incomes rise throughout our working career from both promotions as well as inflationary adjustments. That will affect your calculation.

It is true that the most wealthy do get less return on their SS money paid in than they would if they chose wisely a private fund to invest in. I am probably in that category but it is worth it to me to live in a society that takes care of its elderly and infirm. I even favor removing the cap on the income subjected to SS taxes, even though I would pay in substantially more. It would secure the future of SS for the foreseeable future and beyond.
