People pay in to the social security fund for YEARS.

does this info include SSI or social security, or both? you don't have to pay into either in order to receive the benefit - though with social security i believe you have to be married to someone who's paid in.

That's unfair. I think in some examples they are black as well.

Persons who receive a Social Security benefit check are retired workers, disabled workers, widow/ers of workers, or children of deceased or disabled workers. In all of these cases, a work history is required to build up credits.

ETA:

SSI (Supplemental Security Income) is a form of federal welfare for persons who have disabilities or are elderly. No work history is required to receive SSI.

I love it when people lump in Social Security as some kind of government assistance. It's not. People pay in to the social security fund for YEARS. Now if congress would stop borrowing against it, that would be nice.

ETA: That's like saying I'm getting "banking" assistance when I start receiving disbursements from my 401k.

Typical SS recipient gets back everything they put in, plus everything employers put it, within a few years. Considering the life expectancy of someone that reaches retirement age is another 20 years, that works out to be a many-fold return on your investment, as the working population and employers in this country pay for the greater portion of your SSI pension.

and who exactly is in the middle class is a hotly debated subject and many notable economist will disagree but go ahead and tell us cause you have if figured out right ?

I hate actually working here, I miss all the good topics :innocent:

We all know who the middle class is, sorry, but you tend to lean(heavily I might add)on the stereotype of black people being the only ones that recieve gov't assistance. You don't use examples that fit any other demographic(bady daddy is more associated with blacks, blacks are more likely to spend that much money on nails). I know where you live and that might be the norm in your neighborhood and others. But if you want to convey your message without the racial overtones, it would be more effective.

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

SS retirement is an entitlement program and is government assistance. It was never a retirement account you paid into, you are paying for those already on the program. It was created because so many old people were impoverished and is welfare. Separating out how you're taxed for this welfare program, does not make it not a welfare program. In reality, we should be including unemployment and corporate welfare in any debate on the merits and can we afford to do this.

Here's a good site that compiled some direct government payment statistics. Some things are shocking, and other things dispel many myths.

So you're telling me that if I don't pay into Social Security for 40 qualifying quarters, I'll still get SS benefits? I'm not talking SSI.

Your wife could pay in. The original recipients of Social security never paid in. The system is now, and has always been classified as an entitlement program. You can attempt to redefine the definition of an entitlement program all you want, I'm sure the government will run right out and change their definition based on your superior knowledge.
