Also, unless you have been poor and on welfare, then you have no idea how hard it is to get out of the cycle of poverty.

Especially if you are involved with drugs, including marijuana. Amazing how some folks can't afford diapers, but support their nicotine/grass habit, no problem. I quit drinking and smoking, among other things, and it was amazing how much money I was spending to support my addictions.

it's ridiculous to expect anyone, rich or poor, to cure their own addictions. some people can quit on their own, most can't.

Okay. We shouldn't expect them to do anything. Let's just keep them in ghettos away from everybody else, like we have done since Johnson was President.

jail is not the answer, treatment is. simple as that. how many young black males are in jail in this country for minor possession charges?

In jail, or prison? Going to jail for a second or third drug offense is part of the treatment. Usually, you go from jail into some sort of diversion and monitoring program.

There used to be about a six-month waiting list in my county, between sentencing and serving your sentence, for misdemeanor possession.

no. jail or prison - is not treatment. i don't know of one single addict who has turned their life around for getting time. or monitoring, for that matter.
