Nice try. Strike one.

Not "trying" anything. What's acceptable from some isn't acceptable from others. And there are some who don't find it acceptable at all. Deal with it.

strike one?

Strike one for you for bringing attention to strike one for me.

So what is and is not acceptable communication is simply a matter of the color of one's skin?

no it isn't and why do you think so? younger black males might refer to themselves as such, but it's their right to. it's okay to have a word that isn't ever appropriate for white people to use but okay for black people to use if they choose. i mean, we have a history we have to respect. that's just how it is..

i don't get it.

It's Baseball term. Sometimes people use it in conversation when referring to a failed argument. Not sure what the Canadian equivalent is.

 Durrr, what's strike one? I'm Canadian and your foreign terms confuse me so.

depends upon if the person you're communicating with is offended. if you have no issue saying the word then by all means, go for it.

I'm gonna try and say this one more time.

What's acceptable to some isn't acceptable to others. Simply because you know some black people who like to use the word when referring to themselves doesn't mean the black community as a whole finds it an acceptable term - from black OR white people. I'm sure the majority find it offensive.

If you know black people who are fine with you saying it, then say it. Nobody's stopping you. Just don't be surprised that all black people don't think the same way.

You're talking to someone who protests it in any form. I can't stand that word, and it sickens me to hear in used in any song, movie, or even other blacks who say it. And I don't think that blacks own it as well. No one should ever use it, you can't put a positive spin on it in my eyes. I know there are a lot of blacks that disagree with me, but any type of racial slur is never ok under any circumstances. Kind of like those who have to use profanity or put folks down to get their point across, you have no class.

My parents and grandparents went through hell trying to make it to the middle, I will be damned if I shame them by embracing ignorance.

Amen.... I agree with you 100%.. Much like you, and albeit from a totally different perspective, I know how bad it was. Slavery ended in Middle ga about 1985 or so. That is why I am so vocal about, blacks being their own worse enemy now, and why I point out how stuff that's called racism now days is not.

We have a 50% plus high school drop out rate here, and every where you look are foul mouthed young black males running around with their butts hanging out, mumbling some form of unintelligible English ( I can make out the MOFO's and GD's) . They are killing each other at alarming rates, and fathering generations of fatherless government dependent kids. Most of them have never experienced anything close to racism . The schools are cesspools of violence, drugs and unwed young mothers. The crime rate here is through the roof and about 90% of our violent crime is young black males.

Now all this is awful, and white people have got to realize you can't erase 400 years of oppression in 35 years. However the black community has got to start accepting some responsibility and stop making idiots like Al Sharpton the spokesperson for so many issues. Look at black role models... Michael Vick, Ray Lewis etc etc. Those guys are human garbage but they are gods in these parts. Sad Sad.

How dod you break thru with a positive message ? The black kids here who study and try to act like a human, are mocked and teased as acting white. A good friend of mine and church mate, who happens to be black was at the house with his wife Sat night. he said many of the same things, but he still defends the massive social programs that caused a lot of this.

Oh well rant for the day done. Everything I just said is a fact. Guess telling facts makes me racist ?

Actually it's not acceptable in any situation. Some people allow it and others don't. If you say it around me, you will get the business, I don't care what color you are. As far as linguistics go, I know that we allow, like Evlyin said you might get away with calling a woman the B words if that's how you get down. I can't speak on your relationship or how things affect you, but the N word is never cool to say, period. I guess Quentin and me will never see eye to eye on that, but I can only speak for me.

“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” – Coretta Scott King

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

Call me crazy, but I'd like to think that if a word is offensive, it is offensive. No matter who says it to who, whether it's used in a song, whatever.

It's a freaking word. Get over it. Everyone is so concerned about "hurting feelings" No wonder this country is turning into a bunch of people that feel they are owed something for doing nothing. Everyone is special and deserves special treatment.

It's a word with a lot of history. Get over it. Nobody's stopping you from using it. Let it fly!
