no it isn't and why do you think so? younger black males might refer to themselves as such, but it's their right to. it's okay to have a word that isn't ever appropriate for white people to use but okay for black people to use if they choose. i mean, we have a history we have to respect. that's just how it is..

For some reason, people always use the "well they use it, why can't I?" argument when it comes to this word. I have no idea why so many white people want to throw around the n-word and have it be acceptable.

So what your saying is it's ok to use that word amongst black people, but if a white person uses that word it's racist?

while the definition has been taken back by the black community and is used as a positive instead of a slur, i knew quite a few black households where even letting that word be heard from the television would get you in trouble. it's usage in the black community is more generational.

yes. it is what it is.

There are plenty of black people who don't advocate the use of the word among other black people.

If a black person is comfortable with letting a white person use that word to describe them, then so be it. But I bet the majority don't appreciate the use of the word, regardless of who it's coming from.

Used as a positive? So if I call someone "poor white trash" it's cool because I'm white, but if a black person calls them that, it's racist?

So then why is it ok for black people to use the N word when referring to each other?

Like I said, to a LOT of people, it isn't. I'm sure the majority find it offensive regardless of who it's coming from. Just because it happens doesn't mean the entire community finds it acceptable.

maybe not 'poor white trash' but try 'honky'. white people can use that term jokingly with one another but if a black person says it to a white person, the meaning twists a bit more personal.

I have no desire to use the word. I just can't imagine that there is a word that is soo offensive that if you have to repeat what someone else said, you use a substitute word, Yet however it is a very common word in songs and movies. It seems to me if Blacks found the word so offensive, they would not use it.

That should be just common sense.

Ok then I think I got this.

It's ok for black to people to call each other the N word some of the time.

It's never ok for white people to call black people the N word at anytime.

Just making sure I understand the rules in this country's quest for racial equality.

So why do you never here a black activist protesting it's use by so many popular black artists but when Michael Richards uses it the world goes nuts. If Richards had been black it would have been a no big deal. That is Racism

Racial equality is being able to throw around the n-word as much as you please and not have anyone care? Weird. Go ahead and use it. Let me know how it goes.

Don't let the man bring you down, Herschel. Start using it! You show those racists.

jeez. but he's not black, he's white - therefore, he's not allowed to say it without showing disrespect. that's a consequence of history, not reverse racism.

I can't think of any word someone would call me that would pi$$ me off. I would consider the source, and move on.

I take that back. If someone called me Canadian, I would want to kill them.
