It should be pretty simple to wipe out the army since the bulk of it is lined up at the border with South Korea. Everything is in a relatively confined area. They have no air force to worry about. A few thousand cruise missles and bombing runs by a few hundred planes in a day should get the job started.

there you go.

and maybe they can test out those emp bombs newt keeps talking about on pyongyang.

we can designate that part of the world as our official new bomb technology testing region. like hiroshima and nagasaki.

You mean knock out all the cell phones on the Korean Peninsula, just before everything turns hotter than the surface of the sun over a large area?

The French are always looking for new test sites.

I thought the French just got a new testing area in Africa?

Since North Korea and Iran seem so hell bent on nuclear weapons, maybe an up close and personal demonstration would be beneficial to all parties involved.

Right on top of their testing facilities maybe? Just to let them know they were on the right track.

I wonder if N Korea did attack the US with a nuclear missle, if there would be military retaliation. I could picture more of the tough talk sanctions that were just implemented and lots of noise making but a retaliatory strike? Would Obama pull the trigger?

You wonder if the guy who gave the order to send our special forces into an allies country without their knowledge to remove an enemy, who has personally approved hundreds of drone strikes, who ratcheted UP the war in Afghanistan would fail to use nuclear weapons if attacked with them first?! I have no doubt personally. I only wonder if he might actually consider a first use! I certainly hope he would not but he is certainly no dove when it comes to responding to attacks!

The North Korean people are impoverished and starving. Hunger makes people desperate and do irrational things. On top of that they are run by leaders that are considered irrational actors. As former President Clinton once said North Korea is hell on earth. However, it seems according to recent reports the North Koreans don't really have the capability to hit the USA and that our allies in the region South Korea and Japan are more likely to become their targets.

That's my read of it. I can't imagine any president sitting idle to a direct nuclear attack on the USA. A bigger question is what would we do if NK nuked Seoul or the DMZ? NK has got to know they'd become a glowing wasteland is they nuked the USA, but would they gamble on nuking SK?

Why would they nuke SK? If I was NK I'd rather occupy it and make it mine.

A nuke on Seoul would make the rest of SK a cake walk to invasion. After all it wasn't that long until Nagasaki and Hiroshima were livable again. The radiation mainly affected those that were in the area when the blast occurred.
