Sending K1 Application (1st step) - Attachments

Hello! I'm in the process of compiling the packet for filing K1 Visa and heres a question:

For the G-325A document, I have scanned a copy of my birth certificate, and printed it with a footer "[NAME] - Birth Certificate Page 1 of 2". I did that with most of the attachments throughout the packet. Is the footer needed? Or should I just removed the footer all together to prevent complications? Really want to avoid a RFE if possible!

You don't need a footer, you won't get an RFE for ir since Adjudicators are human.

Just provide what is asked and nothing more. The less you complicate things the less to go wrong

I wouldn't add any verbiage to any document; you've now altered that document and it is not a true copy of the original.

Use paper clips and binder clips. Include a cover letter that also serves as a table of contents.

I agree. I would not alter documents in any way. You could maybe use tabs if you wanted to give your paperwork a more organized look. That's what I did.

First just need to clear up something that can be the cause of confusion: the I-129F is not a K-1 application. it is a petition and no visa is being applied for by sending in the I-129F and its supporting documents. An approval of the I-129F petition allows the foreign fiance(e) eligibility to apply for a K-1 visa through the US consulate in their country.

All that being said, I would not add anything to your copies of important documents. Copy them exactly as they are. The application process isn't meant to be difficult, just send exactly what they are asking for. No need to put 'footers' or tabs saying this is your birth certificate or this is a copy of your passport bio page, etc. The person adjudicating your case knows what these things are so no need to point out what is already obvious to them.

No not at all they will want up separate everything and if stapled something could get ripped etc and them on 6 months you'd get an RFE.

Aww.. good thing I found this topic while just browsing.. aarggh.. thanks.. but I didn't use the ACCO fastener.. I used a 3 ring binder with clear sheets, and that's where I placed my papers, no holes on my papers.. and my tabs are attached to the clear sheets (protecting my documents).. is that okay? am planning to send it next week..

Ditch the binder and plastic holders. Use only paper clips and binder clips.

Just to add my experience: I did put "footers" or rather, yellow "text boxes" with captions inside, at the bottom of the page explaining what each document was. For instance on the copy of my birth certificate, which took about 3/4 of the page, at the bottom well removed from the certificate itself, I had a yellow text box and "Birth Certificate for (my full name) showing US Citizenship and Date of Birth XX-XX-XXXX". I did that for nearly every document I copied, since I had scanned everything into my computer and assembled in a large Word file. I did not want any confusion and wanted the person looking over my file to be able to quickly adjudicate it.

As for other things, I did not hole punch, I did not use any staples. I did use a few paper clips, and I did use a large metal binder clip to hold the ENTIRE packet together inside the envelope. I did put a few of those post-it TABS at the bottom of the pages for easy reference. You can see some pics of my packet on my profile page.

No RFE, approved with no issues last week. I'm NOT saying that my way is right -- I think they are totally human and flexible and there a million different CORRECT ways to present your packet to them. It's up to you to choose a way that you're comfortable and confident about.

The I-129F is just the beginning, so invest in lots of these as you'll need them for the rest of the journey.
