Yep! The first letter you get extends the status of your GC for a year. You can use that letter + expired GC to travel.

Sweet! Thanks! If we are wanting to go on a carribian cruise then those documents would be required? I think it would be i just want to make sure.

These documents will get you into the US. To answer what docs you'd need for a cruise, we need more information (like what country the passport is from for the GC holder).

My wife and I just got off of a Eastern Caribbean cruise. If it is a US territory, then you will not have any problem with the GC. However, check each island to ensure your GC spouse can enter and get out!

Ok, thanks for the info!

When Chinook still had her green card and Philippines passport, we went on an Alaska cruise which had a stop in Canada. Chinook's passport carried her maiden name and her green card carried her married name, so her cruise ticket had to carry her maiden name. She brought along our marriage certificate in order to bridge the gap between the two names. However, no one ever asked to see the marriage certificate.

Also, even though Chinook was still a Philippines citizen, she did not need a Canadian visitor's visa because she had a green card.

Another thing, our cruise line's website stated that a passport had to be good for at least six months past the date of the cruise. However, Chinook's passport was only good for four months past the date of the cruise. I emailed the cruise line about the issue and they told me it would not be a problem. I took a copy of their email with me just in case, but we didn't need it.

Your cruise line has the final say on whether you have the correct documents to board the ship. Check in advance with them to make sure you do because you don't want to be denied boarding.
