Visa Approved and our stay at Jardines Del Teatro

Our stay at Jardines del Teatro:

I called about a month in advance to reserve a room but they took my reservation but would not allow me to pay in advance. I was told check-in was at 3pm and check out was at 1pm. We arrived in Santo Domingo at around 8pm from Santiago and got to the hotel at around 8:15pm. When we arrived we were taken to our room after paying and signing in etc. We were provided with the Wi-Fi password. The room was a double since it was my wife and my two step daughters. It was small but nice. A small kitchen with a stove, fridge, and table for two. There were dishes, utensils and pretty much everything we needed. In the bedroom there were two queen sized beds, A/C and a ceiling fan. There was also a tv with cable. The hotel does not offer any food but has an extensive option of diverse delivery restaurants nearby. I would rate Jardines del Teatro a 8 out of 10 for confort and cleanliness. I rate it 8 simply cause I don't like to give 10s..lol

Our consulate experience:

We arrived at the consulate at 4AM and were literally the first ones online. Our interview was at 6:45 AM. At around 10 to 7 the guys with the info shirts came out and handed out numbered tickets. Our ticket was 174. They started letting us in like 5 people at a time. Once inside since we were the first ones in we were told for resident visas to sit at the far end of the room by the Domex desk. They started calling all tourist visas first and it kind of started to piss me off since it defeats the purpose of an appointment. I even asked and they said they assign appointments to keep order outside but once inside they are basically irrelevant. Well at around 8 we were called to window 15 where my wife was finger printed and her banco popular receipt. Then we were told to go and wait again. A few minutes later we were called to window 22. At this point I was becoming nervous. When we got to the window the gentlemen at the window asked for my passport. He then asked my wife to sign her name on her application and on both of my step daughters applications. He asked my step daughters who their mother was. Then he asked me how many people attended our wedding. The next couple of questions were to my wife. What my mothers name was? What my brothers name was? If she had ever traveled to the US? Had she ever had any problems with the law? Then he asked to see some pictures. He only pointed to one and asked for the names of the people in the picture which were my wife, the best man, the maid of honor, and myself. After that he said you are approved. I was kind of stupefied for a minute and then caught on. It all took about 3 min and we were never separated at all. After that I had to go pay Domex which was the happiest line I had been on all day. I would like to thank all of the people that helped me through out the process. You know who you are. I hope this info can be some help to others .. BTW they never asked for pictures at all. Only the Banco Popular receipt. I would rate our consulate experience a 12 out of 10.

Thank you. Its incredible how much ####### we brought. Also the questions we practiced etc etc.. What I did do which I got the idea from Chastity a fellow VJer was I made a small photo book with pics from when we met to the present. A total of about 50-60 pics in a little 4x6 book which fit through the interview window slot. I noted below each pic when and where it was from. I guess he kinda answered his own questions with the book. Matter of fact the pic where he pointed to the two people in the book it said Best Man and Maid of Honor below their pics.

I will follow this advice. Just got back from the DR and we have a long way to go. USCIS received our petition on Valentines Day. Hope that is a sign. LOL. Good luck when is she flying to the states with you?

I sent out my petition towards the end of Feb 2012. I decided to wait for them to finish the school year in DR and start the year off fresh here.

Cool. Did you have any problems with your year long process? I thought that the Dominican Republic handled these cases quicker than a year.

No I had no problems. No RFEs or anything.. I was in DR for a few weeks which delayed me sending out my IV fee. So it would have been about a month sooner. I wasn't really worried since I wanted them to come after the school year was over.
