My fiance is telling me with fed-ex she will have to pay for the package when it gets there. Is that true? I need to make sure something gets to her in the mail within a week or 2. She told me to send LBC but I don't know what the heck that is.

I am not sure about the Fedex fee, but I have shipped a couple of Balakbayan boxes with LBC (it is a company based in the philippines) but they have dealers here in the US, just look them up online. If you are just shipping something small, you can use DHL, it will get there a lot faster. My Balakbayan boxes took about 45 days to get there. Good luck whatever you decide

Not sure how it works in the PI, but when I sent the documents and presents to my then fiancee in Kazakhstan via FedEx, they had the option of paying the customs fee by the sender or the receipient. Maybe that is what she is talking about. I made certain I paid FedEx for all expenses, but I was also deliverying it to a business rather than a personal residence. I do know that in some countries that FedEx will not deliver to a residence. You need to ask someone at FedEx about sending items to the PI and if there are any hidden "fees".

Good luck,

Dave

What are you sending? There are customs fees on many things. Balikbayan boxes are supposed to be free from custom fees, but are very slow to get there and technically there's some things you're not supposed to send in them. Our last box we sent took about 90 days, but much depends on where its going. Balikbayan boxes are stored until they fill a container, then put aboard a ship.

It depends on how much is the declared amount of the package. Also, it depends on who is the (fedex crew) holding the package. Some charge fees and some don't.

my husband send me by fedex $700 ring and paid $200 dollars tax for that (sucks!!). and he did send me again earring cost about$300 he declare it just a fashion jewelry, i didnt pay anything. Fedex is faster than LBC, about 3-4 days to arrive in Philippines. But if it just a paperwork it will not cost her anything. (depends if she will give a tip to the deliveryman). :)

If it's just documents she doesn't have to pay anything but if you include something on there especially electronics then she will get charge for taxes and that depends on the value of the item(s)..

I just sent my package in January and there were no fees for her. Cost me 130 USD from Florida. I sent all my tax and bank stuff etc. Doing it over I would scan iqn more and save if possible. Heads up as I posted earlier this week. Send her a cell phone or sim card so she can communicate at her POE unless you are with her. It was nerve racking Friday night/Saturday am waiting for her to arrive.

Documents shouldn't have any fees upon arrival. Anything else would have import fees in the Philippines. I sent via FedEx a box that I had assigned a value of $100. Philippine customs thought that was too little for the weight of the box I sent and adjusted the value to $299 and charged me tax on that amount. The assignment of the fees and payment for it delayed the package a few days.

Balikbayan boxes have no import taxes. Anything besides documents sent via FedEx likely will. (I assume the same goes for other carriers).

Documents you normally don't have to pay but if you send items they make them pay a percent of the amount on customs declared

I even had the option to be billed or credited if customs charged of course they did not do that and made her pay at least they called before delivery and let her know

I sent my papers via Priority USPS to MNL. It was cheaper but arrived late and I was nervous... Won't do that again. He was charged Customs Fees even though they were only documents... I'm not surprised...

Happened to my wife also. Customary bribe when they realize there's immigration documents inside. She was charged 5000P  All further document shipments went via fedex. They got there much faster even though fedex is expensive, it was much cheaper than getting a $125 bribe tacked on by the postal workers.

Does anyone have any idea how much do you have to pay if you send a document from a province in the Philippines to USA through fedex? Could it be a lot more cheaper if sent it express though the post office ? Thank you
