I just checked my status for the first time in weeks...to see this note:

Decision

On October 4, 2013, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before receiving your card, please call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

During this step the formal decision (approved/denied) is written and the decision notice is mailed and/or emailed to the applicant/petitioner. You can use our current processing time to gauge when you can expect to receive a final decision.

Now, before I jump to any conclusions, this means that my GC has been approved, correct? If so, I am close to tears with relief!

Correct, this is an approval. Congrats! I have seen quite a few March and February filers get their approvals this week, so hopefully us who are still waiting are really close!

The next step would be Removal of Conditions in 21 months. Also go back to your local Social Security office and get the remark "Valid for work with DHS authorization only" removed.

No. Nothing yet. We sent change of address when we bought the house. They updated the case in Initial review, stating they received our change of address form and thats about it.

So I thought I would update you all on my progress with the AOS. I was able to file a service request because they finally agreed my case is outside normal processing times. I file March 18 and although my case is with the National Benefits Center they said they use the processing times for the local centers to guide whether it is outside normal processing time. My local office is Fort Smith, AR and they are working on April. I received a letter from my local office today that they have requested my file from the National Benefits Center and I should contact them again if I haven't heard anything in the next 90 days. I don't know if this means anything, we will just have to keep waiting and see. Maybe NBC will hurry and process my case or maybe it will be transferred to Fort Smith which I hope doesn't cause a further delay.

You're lucky you can at least put in a Service Request. My local office is currently working on January 18, 2013 (I think it is the slowest in the nation) and is marking hardly any progress either, so I won't be able to put in a Service Request until December or January

Where can you check your local office processing times?

You can check online on the USCIS website for general processing times but I do not find this to be accurate. For example my local office has said on there for months that they are currently processing I-485 applications within 4 months but this is definitely not the case. An alternative way is to call USCIS and ask the customer services rep or tier 2 officer for the precise date the service center is working on. This is how I have been keeping tabs on when I can file a service request. This probably isn't 100% accurate either as I have been told the same date for weeks but over the course of the last 2 -3 months they have been moving through January to March. As soon as they told me an April date the system enabled them to put in a service request and I was told I would have a response within 14 days and I received the letter in the mail after 10 days into the service request.

HK12, I'm sorry to hear that your service center is moving so slow. I know its frustrating when you feel like everyone is getting approved before you. My K1 took 222 days whilst everyone else who filed the same month seemed to get approved in 160-180 days. It feels so unfair when it is not in first come first serve order. I don't know if my service request even means anything, we will just have to wait until it happens, but I figure there is no harm on calling and checking every few weeks and I am so impatient. I feel so settled here now with my life and have landed an amazing job and I just want to have the security that I can be here instead of worrying. Good luck to you and everyone else.

We hadn't checked the USICS website forever and just happened to check today and voila! Card in production.

We had received an interview waiver letter and just thought okay, we'll just wait til it gets done. It was a nice surprise for sure.
