Hi! I'm new here but I took the chance in asking for someone's help regarding my problem. I was advised to write a letter to a US consulate with regards to my issue but I would like to ask for your help, anyone's help, if you know something about it. I'm also not sure if I have posted this in the right category, so if I made a mistake, please pardon me,

I'm a Filipino citizen currently residing in Manila, Philippines. When I was 10years old, my mother and I migrated to the US under a working visa. My status was dependent on hers. While there, my mother managed for us to become immigrants.

But in the year 2002, my mother made a decision for us to return to Manila because our visas expired. Our immigration lawyer did not even inform us of these things! I was 16 at the time and I did not understand what was going on. We went home and my mom paid for our own plane tickets. That was June 2002.

On December 2002, one of our friend back in the US told us that our green cards arrived already. But we were not there anymore! For me, this is so unfair because I wanted to continue my studies there. Today, it still feels like an opportunity had been stolen from me without me ever having the chance to help myself. I wasn't given any choice but to accept my "fate" in other people's irresponsibility.

My question is: Could I possibly go after the green card I lost? I'm at a loss already. I need and want to go back. I'm a professional already. I earned a degree here. I have work experience and I definitely will not be a burden to the government. Please let me know what I can do. I got a hold of my former immigration lawyer's email address but my inquiry fell onto deaf ears. Please don't do this to me. I need answers. Please help me. Thank you.

The card, if it still exists, has long since been revoked because she has not been a resident of the US in a decade.

Exactly.

Besides, if it had not been 10 years you were still there based on your mother working in the US, which she no longer does and hasn't for 10+ years.

Thank you. This saved me a lot of time in worrying about this issue and actually writing a consulate regarding my case. I guess I'll just have to start from scratch.

No. That GC is long gone. You can try applying for a work visa, or student visa or something like that if you wish to return to the US. Of course that would only be temporary.

You already lost your LPR status. Even if your friend mails the GC, it is no longer valid. You can't renew it because you already left a long time ago and you were not able to maintain ties to the US. Sorry.
