Hi everyone,

I'm new to this website (which has been so much help btw) and I apologize if I post this in the wrong section as well!

My fiance and I are waiting on our 2nd NOA and he just had a quick question about the type of work he would be able to do once he is here in the US and has his AOS/EAD. He wanted to know if he had to do a specialist job like with the H1b visa, basically something an American couldn't do. Or can he work anywhere, in an office for example? I've read here that certain government or federal jobs he would be unable to do?

Thanks! :)

He can work whereever he wants after he gets his employment card. But he cant work in any govt positions because u need to be a us citizen to work in any govt positions

Some non-government employers also only want to hire US citizens. So OP your fiance can apply for and work at any job where they stipulate requiring their employees to have legal residence and work authorization in the US, but not US citizens only.

Not quite true.

There are many positions that he can work for the government. The catch is SOME government positions require US citizenship. Each position would specify if citizenship is a requirement of that position much like skills, education, etc. Same holds true for many non gov jobs.

Also to OP, H1B is not for something a US person couldn't do, the sponsor was just unable to find a US person that would.
