Driver's License in Oregon

Hi, I know each state is different whe it comes to granting DLs. I looked at Oregon's DMV site and i couldn't find any info about needing a residency card or other certificate to get a DL, only a SSN and proof of residence (such as an utility bill), but i want to triple check.

Anyone here with a K1 visa living in Oregon who got their DL before the AOS?

My current European driver's license expired without me noticing, so that now i'd need to have a full driving test again to get a new one... so i thought i might as well wait and get it once i'm in the US, but if i need to wait til AOS, i might consider getting a new EUro one so i can drive with it while i wait...

Any help will be apreciated.

Anna

I was looking at the Oregon DMV site and it dose not indicate evidence of permanent residence like EAD or Green card required. Just 2 primary IDs. Like Passport, and Non-Immigrant Visa like the K-1, and SS number.

I would just visit the DMV and see what they say.

hi Anna,

Oregon is one of the last 5 (I think) states that do not yet require proof of legal immigration status to issue a license. We're sort of infamous for it! :)

I think you will have to take the tests anyway---Germany & Canada are the only foreign licenses that can be traded in easily. It's always a good idea to have a back up DL, if it is not too much trouble for you to get one from your home country.

Thanx, Meaxuna. That's a relief.

I'd need to pay for a whole exam and do the test anyways here in Holland where i currently reside (in a language I'm not too proficient at), that's why I'd rather wait and get it in Oregon. I'm aware i'll need to get a test and it's fine. I will feel safer if i know the different way of driving and rules (school buses have their own sort of traffic lights!) anyways.

I have my wellis ready!!! (the weather here is very rainy too)
