Hey everyone sorry I have been so absent but as you can see my husband arrived a month ago today and well we are still in our little honeymoon lol...Not to mention hes making up for the 8 months he missed of his sons life..Life is so good..anyways so he arrived on the 5th of February and turned his packet in at the port of entry at NYC..He just received 3 identical welcome notices in a row but NO GREEN CARD AND NO SOCIAL..Now we are aware that they don't always issue and send the social security number and card so we went to the social security office twice now..First time he hadn't been in the country for ten days meaning the systems hadn't merged yet..We were told to come back in ten days and we did but this time they said cause it was within 14 days of the date on his visa in passport. Now he is a permanent resident but was told now he has to wait for his greencard to apply for the social..He really wants to start working but cannot without this number...So now we were told my the USCIS that his welcome package should arrive within 30 days and it has not. Like I stated he got 3 welcome notices but not the card we called and they said after the 30 days which is today we can put in a service request. They also said according to their system it has not been mailed yet..So We are wondering has anyone gone through this and how long did it take for some of you to receive the green card in the mail? Thank you all :)

Whomever told you that you can't get the SSN without a green card is full of it. You can. Fill out the paperwork ahead of time and take it with you.

Call the USCIS and find out what's going on. Also did you pay the immigrant visa fee??

You do not need to wait for the green card to get the SS number, you were misinformed. Go to any SS office, take his passport, and his birth certificate and apply. Just because he ticked the box on the DS-260 to get the SS number, doesn't mean it will come on it's own. My husband went to SS 2 weeks after POE and applied, he was not in their system yet, so he made out an application and had the SS card the next week, before his green card arrived. So happy that your hubby is finally here and he is getting to know his baby boy!!!
