Hey all

How long would one usually expect to wait before they should call the NVC to find out their case number and Invoice Identification Number?

I've heard conflicting stories. I was estimating a week - reason being that my case was touched again two days after the NOA2 was received. Could it be that it's already been sent?

Hopefully this isn't too stupid a question; I'm just really anxious to get through the NVC in as short a time as possible :)

Thanks!

After about a week (maybe 10 days if you're patient) start calling EVERY DAY until you get your number. Also, read the first two posts on any of the NVC filing threads. I'll include March's here. It's got the information you'll need for this next step. Good luck!

so do you just keep calling every so often asking for it?

Hey Ash/Tiffany, certainly I dont pressume to speak for anyone but myself and my partner when I offer insight or my tidbits of information, but from 'my personal experience' I was on top of it from the get go, meaning I called the NVC until I got the info I was after, I found it more frustrating to sit back and wait/wonder, than I did to call the NVC and be told "nothing to report yet" so I say call as often as the urge strikes. In retrospect, it may not have sped (sp?) anything up, but our processing time seemed shockingly quick, even as we went through the process it seemed fast.

Further, have you been doing it all on your own, or calling the Embassy in Auckland for advice? They have some absolutely overwhelmingly helpful staff who will keep you going through this process by answering any and all questions as they arrise, they were only 2nd to the lovely crowd here at Visa Journey.

Best of luck guys, speedy journey to you.

I have becomd bit patient with this process so we are making call 3 times a week. But it is totally up to you how often you want to call. There is no wrong way. We did wait 1 weeks from NOA2 date to make our first call to find out if our case has arrived at NVC.

I've been waiting a few days between calls as well but they haven't received the file yet. I think the NBC is slow at sending them over. But they also have to go from the local field office to the NBC, who sends out the NOA2, then they get shipped over to the NVC in batches.

I'm assuming BTW.

Hey,

Thanks for your reply :)

Yeah we've been going it alone. I wouldn't deal with NZ consulates because I live in Australia. I have sent the Sydney consulate a few emails and they've helped me out. We're proactive and on top of it as well. We got our NOA2 in 61 days and we didn't really load up on evidence. The paperwork and steps are pretty simple but are very time consuming. Two days ago I went and got my fingerprints taken and applied for the police certificate as it will take a few weeks. My wife will be in Australia next week so she's going to bring our marriage certificate and if we get our case number in time, send off the AOS package after we're billed (and it's paid). I work for a US-based engineering and construction company who are willing to help me get a job sorted in the US so that's taken care of. The thing that's stressing me the most is finding a house to live in and a car to drive to work in haha!

I'll wait til I get my case number before I have my medical. I was going to wait at least until my wife arrives next week before I call. What reason would USCIS have for touching my case again two days after I received my NOA2?

Thanks everyone for your replies, it's very helpful :)

Ash

No case # for us yet either. NOA2 was 2/13/2013 and the NVC received our file on 2/25/2013.

I'm probably going to give it at least until Monday to try again. Hope to hear some good news next week.

I called and they volunteered the information. Some of them aren't so generous with their details. Most just tell me yes your case is in our building but it has not been entered into our computer system yet.

When you call them, ask them specifically when your case was received at the NVC. They should have that information from your USCIS receipt #.

You really need to click this link and read the first two posts, it's step by step information on what to do at NVC so that you can fly through the process. Most (if not all) your questions are answered there.

Lately, it's been taking around 4 weeks from NOA2 date. I just read that someone whose NOA2 date is Feb 6 got their case # today.

It took my case exactly 3 weeks from when my I-130 was approved on Jan. 23.
