My fiancee is pregnant and comes from a very poor family . How does the hospital system work in the Philippines ? When I was there I went to the hospital in Ormoc and found it to be very good . Went through the process and at the end required payment . What happens if you do not have the money to pay ? She has told me there is a free clinic , but I am concerned about the care she will get . She has no doctor care at this point and I told her to find one . Does anyone live in Ormoc and knows of a doctor she can see ? I did find a hospital clinc in Ormoc call Clinica Gatchalian Hospital . I heard that one was pretty good and has everything on hand to deal with situations . Does anyone know the cost of a delivery ? I know here in America it is in the thousands and we have health care . She does have a Philippines Health ID now . I also read about PCSO and there is an office in Tacloban . Is this something she can apply for now or only when you have a bill ? Main question here is can she deliver the baby in a hospital and have a bill that I can help her with later and PCSO help cover some that bill ?

its difficult to be so far away and have limited resources to help her . I am an American , but by no means a rich one . Can I call the hospital and arrange to make payments ? I want to be there during , but when do I go ? I know the due date , but can only stay for the 21 days and extend to 59 right ? I can't afford to be in the country financially for that long . For now my main concern is for the health of her and the baby . Not to witness the birth I can deal with as I want to witness them both alive and healthy . If anyone lives in Ormoc or knows a friend that can help me that would be great !

Thanks for your time and God Bless

Hi, is this her first child? If yes, she needs to give birth to hospital because the delivery clinic will not accommodate her if it is her first. The normal delivery here in the Philippines could amount to 7k to 25k pesos. If cesarian 50-100k pesos.

Please be informed that if the hospital knew about that the baby is fathered by you, even the PCSO may not help you. They will require necessary documents and do back ground checking before they help.

It would be best if you can be with her 2 weeks before her conception in that way youll be a great encouragement for her.

I pray that she will have a normal delivery and may you be united soon.

In Cebu normal delivery in a private hospital usualy cost around $250-300.. They have a package deal that includes pre-natal care.. No need to ask help from PCSO if you can afford that amount cause it can be a pain the butt dealing with them specially if shes close to her due date.. C section is another story, it costs thousands of dollars..

OK yes she will be in a private care hospital . Does anyone have any recommendation of a hospital in the Ormoc City area ? She is so tiny and I am so afraid for that . I am sure that most deliveries are of this nature and they are quite prepared . She is about 5 months in her pregnancy now . I could plan a trip a few weeks before her due date . I was already planning such a trip I just pray that the due date is correct :)

Rural clinic or barangay clinics as stated in the above reply do not allow first born birthing, too young mother (around22 and below), too old (40s and above), has no previous check ups with a doctor or the clinic for a particular time. In other words, those that have risks of pregnancy that may require hospital facilities.

If it was in a birthing clinic that she is to give birth midwives may charge up to $250.

Government Hospital

Normal delivery = up to $350

Caesarian section = up to $600

Private Hospital

Normal Delivery = starting at $800

C/S = can start at $1000 to $2500

These are for 3 days stay if in a hospital. :P

Those are prices that I have seen while in a hospital. She has PhilHealth so I suggest that she be admitted in a government hospital. If they have a birthing clinic nearby that is PhilHealth accredited then she can give birth there and she'll be subsidized and maybe just pay up to $200 (Maternal and Child Package). She just needs to be updated in her payments with PhilHealth and check ups with that birthing center/barangay center. Also, as long as she doesn't have any pregnancy risks. If she does have some risks then a government hospital is enough and once again she can use her PhilHealth card.

How many months is she in her pregnancy now? We always emphasize the importance of being ready for the worst. Save while in your pregnancy for a C/S so that if worst comes to worst they'll be ready. Please do help her if you can. If it is still early in her pregnancy then you can save maybe $50 to $100 a month then if her delivery is near maybe a month or 2 months before you send it to her to avoid it being spent on other things. There might be cases of premature delivery but make it to a point she prevents that from happening by taking good care of herself and the baby.

I hope all things go well with her pregnancy and your soon to be parenting lives ^_^

i am on my 6th month pregnancy now and still waiting for the K1 noa2. i dont know anything in ormoc, but as of my experience working in a provincial tertiary hospital normal delivery will be like 10,000-25,000 for the whole delivery and if there's no complication with any of them. C-section will range 40-70,000 but if she have philhealth it'll be significantly lower. i think it varies in the hospital though and the place. there's a government hospital if you're really trying to save money. i wont recommend her to deliver in a clinic since you mentioned that she dont have any pre natal care. but i hope she will have it to see how's the baby and to see if there's any complication.

first off, you need to find a doctor to check her monthly/weekly/daily.

when you have the doctor, then you can determine which hospital that doctor is affilaited with.

Ask if the doctor has a "package" like what the previous posts mentioned it will vary on how she will deliver.

The woamn's body work in mysterious ways. Pre pregnancy I weighed ~98lbs on my 39th week, I am at ~145lbs.

I looked like I was carrying twins. I was huge. I was able to deliver normally and without any problems.

I spent about php30,000 (obgyn's fee, aneasthesiologist fee, pedia fee, hospital fee) and this was in Manila. I delivered in a public hospital as my insurance doesn't cover maternity and I didn't want to spend a lot. My friend who delivered in the province had about P15K of damage for a normal delivery as well. Prepare about Php 60,000. No need for fancy hospital but I suggest to not do it in a lying in clinic.

look for a good ob/gyn for prenatal care and then you guys can talk about the price.
