A high school student from Florida who wrestled a loaded gun away from another teenager who was threatening to shoot is being punished.

The 16-year-old student from Cypress Lake High School in Fort Myers student struggled with the suspect on the bus ride home.

Witnesses say the suspect aimed his weapon point blank at another student and threatened to shoot.

The student who has stated he does not want to be identified because he fears for his safety, says there's 'no doubt' he saved a life by disarming the gunman. The next day the school suspended him for three days.

The student says the struggle began as he grappled with a football player who was threatening to shoot a teammate he had been arguing with.

He grabbed the .22 caliber RG-14 revolver away from the suspect.

Police reports state the suspected gunman was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property and assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

Sergeant David Valez of the Lee County Sheriff's Office said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Authorities have said there was no video available of the tussle because school bus surveillance cameras weren't working.

I read about this earlier, I believe(common sense I hope) that he and the other students were suspened to protect them from any type of reprisal from happening in the following days. But I could be wrong.

Likely for his own protection, but don't hesitate to jump to conclusions anyway.

Gotta love a country where any dumbass kid can bring a gun to school.

Probably some of that insane liberal outcome based, teachers Union hoarse #######, that says anyone involved in a physical altercation is suspended no matter who started it. Yes liberalism and political correctness run amok is that stupid.

The kid violated about zillion laws and was in a gun free zone. How did those laws work out .. Huh ? Of course if guns were not readly avaialble right.. Well then how did kids carry drugs to school all the time. They are completely banned right ?

If you make a law banning something the problem just goes away. Look how well it's worked for drugs and illegal immigration. And drinking and driving.

So by your logic schools should not be a drug free area either! At least teachers should be allowed to carry drugs.

There shouldn't be any laws against homicide either seeing how ineffective these laws turn out to be. Burglary should also not be against the law. Nor should speeding and running red lights. All that should not be against the law since passing laws to make it unlawful to murder and rob and burglarize and speed and run red lights has done jack getting rid of these offenses. The law obviously doesn't work. We should repeal it. All of it. At once.

Just imagine if there were absolutely no laws against drinking and driving? Do you think people think twice about jumping in the car sh** faced because of a twinge of conscience? Nope! They are afraid of getting caught and thrown in jail - directly to jail (here in GA anyways). No, it doesnt eliminate the problem, but it has been effective and lives have been saved because of it. If it saves just one life...that life is precious to someone. And just consider if we had no border patrol at all. Scary.

My point is, no laws designed to protect people will EVER be foolproof and 100% effective. But is that a proper argument to say, why bother with them?

What about the death penalty as a deterrent to violent crime?
