Last nights episode of 60 minutes had several interesting pieces last night related to China.

Our jaws dropped when Zhang Xin said that more than anything else Chinese people want democracy and that it would be in China in less than 20 years. Bold move in my opinion.

Then later in the show Wang Shi says "if the real-estate bubble breaks...maybe the next Arab spring"

Here are two of China's self-made billionaires talking about democracy and protest on a Western news program. What the hell?

Are things going to be that different under Xi Jinping?

Baring a national disaster or war, the CCP has no incentive to change anything; everyone's making to much money to want to change things up. A news program in the west is going to get zero play in domestic China, so the opinion of a few rich Chinese people really has no impact.

I'm not suggesting that their comments would prompt any change. I'm more surprised that these two high profile individuals would make these comments so openly to the Western media.

I was surprised too as I watched it last night. Do you thing the government will go after them for their comments?

If its not for domestic consumption, the government doesn't care. 60 minutes is not something that would ever get any play on CCTV.

So when she gave the interview she realized that there would be no consequences.

By that same theory the Chinese government shouldn't care what is posted on Twitter since it is blocked in China. However people are still sent to re-education camps for a "sarcastic post" on Twitter that they felt "disturbed social order". This was in 2010 more than a year after the website was blocked in China.

Almost all of my friends in China use VPN's and are as current or more current on western news than I am. I realize that 60 Minutes won't be re-aired on CCTV but I'd bet good money that there are folks in Beijing that took note of the comments made last night on CBS.

That is why I think there may be repercussions

fall of communism?

Fidel Castro is a champion of anti-imperialism, humanitarianism, socialism and environmentalism. He is a hero to Cuba and Latin America. He fell down and broke his knee, how funny.

That is why I think there may be repercussions

I'm guessing there won't be but she better make sure she is squeaky clean.
