Choice Of Agent

Just a quick question. In the process of getting all my ducks in a row so when our 1-130 gets approved we can be ready to go for NVC. I am the USC my hubby is coming from Canada. When he fills out his choice of agent...does he designate me as the agent and my address to send things to? Or himself and his address? Does it have any bearing on things either way?

He can choose whomever he wants to be agent. Most people choose the USC though.

Keep in mind though, as long as both email addresses are given when a case number is assigned, then all correspondence is sent to the both of you by email, thereby making the Choice of Agent form sort of moot.

Also, I hope you know about Canada and its required online forms. You will NOT be doing the DS-3032, but rather the online DS-261. You will also NOT be doing the DS-230, but rather the online DS-260.

Wrong, ANYONE can be agent. There are a lot of beneficiaries who choose themselves as agents.

Yep anyone can be agent just that many choose US residents cos of the speed, cost and convenience of mailing and receiving correspondence.

But remember, as long as one gives over both email addresses, then NO correspondence is sent by snail mail, thus it doesn't really matter who you choose.

for us not doing the EP i was referring to sending AOS and DS 230 packages. Even with emails NVC may need to use snail mail in rare ocasions when they misspelt my name and I asked to send proof to them nby snail mail. Within 2 weeks I got a snail mail response validating the correct name. Such occasions are why I mentioned 'receiving correspondence'

Well, for sending packages, anyone can send them. It doesn't have to be the agent. Even if one selects the USC to be the agent, the beneficiary can still send the package from their foreign country.

But yes, still always a good idea to select the USC to be agent, just in case NVC decides to either accidentally or on purpose send snail mail.
