Is there an assumption here that most, if not all, atheists are pro-gay marriage?

Perhaps more tolerant...they haven't spent the first 20 years of their lives being told it is morally wrong.

Or maybe they have, and that is one of the reasons they are now athiest?

True. But would they be able to drop every single bit of the "teachings" ingrained in them over those 20 years?

Religion does not make up a presons character

it does make up a societys character

An individual society, i.e. a country, a religious grouping...or society in general?

This thread confuses me.

I think that at some level, everyone believes in something. You believe in hard work, believe in the love of your family, whatever it happens to be. Believing in a higher power, well that's up to the individual. My brother and I were raised Roman Catholic. My brother is now agnostic and I'm kind of a mush-mosh of ideals that really don't meld into a solid belief structure. Is it unnatural or wrong? Not in the least bit.

As far as I'm concerned, everyone can believe whatever they want, as long as they don't peddle it at my doorstep, shove it in my face, or try to impose it on others with different beliefs. It doesn't always work that way, but... in a perfect world.

So, by allowing the state to continue to deny gay people the right to get married, we are infact by default accepting the 'religious' view on homosexuality. Something a bit wrong there no?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I think they just choose what is good for them (like loving other people , no stealing, helping other peoplw.. ect) and also think for themself of which they think it's ok

i think that's how my husband is anyway

I belive every word written in the book how to be a millionare... do I live my life by it..... NO

But if you want to live your life by a collection of stories then thats fine by me.... just dont expect me to follow suit...

well, I personally am not asking you to follow suit.... but I don't want to be told that my beliefs are silly or stupid

I do know there are people who try to impose their beliefs whatever they might be, religious or non- religious on other people...

Yes we are and it is wrong IMO. And exactly the reason why the state should not be involved in marriage at all.

So very true..... at sat through years of listening to a catholic priest rammble on about god and what will happen to you if you dont live by the 10 commandments.... to then find out that our so called man of god was ###### little boys and girls in confesion....

so glad I was able to walk away from all that ####### when I was 13 years old... never been back inside any religious place since that day...

I agree. I am athiest, but I don't think that "silly or stupid" should be labels to beliefs.

yes..... and your point is??

The Bible claims that God created everything 5,000 years ago, in six days.

Physics tells us otherwise.
