I thought Muslims didn't eat pork because it is a dirty animal. Nothing to do with religion....

Jews too. Because pigs use their own waste to stay cool in a dry climate above a certain temperature. So Jews and Muslims created a taboo against pork.

"This book challenges those who argue that we can change the world by changing the way people think. Harris shows that no matter how bizarre a people's behavior may seem, it always stems from concrete social and economic conditions."

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

Atheism can never answer nor will it ever be able to answer why.

.

.

.

Atheism is a disatisfying philosophy, it is a hopeless position, not to be harsh, and it leaves the nonbeliever at the same spot throughout his life seeing nothing better than what he sees. It leaves many of its thinker in a random lifestyle that seems meaningless.

An atheist would say it is up to us to figure out the "why", not faith in an uncommunicative and unproveable God. Now, on the other hand of that, I would say while you cannot prove God exists, at the same time neither can you prove God doesn't exist.

An atheist would say atheism is far from hopeless, it is instead very hopeful because it relies on nothing exterior for help or salvation.

My strength comes from believing that there's someone watching out for me

and that I'm not alone. There's nothing strange about any of that, imo.

I'm ok with the idea that someone's watching out for me and that I'm not alone.

I just don't believe that someone is a bearded old man called Jeebus or Yahweh

or Allah who sits in a chair all day long with naked fat babies flying about playing

harps and shooting love arrows into each other.

I don't believe that is what heaven is like either...

Hence my agnosticism. I am content to spend life not really knowing. I can't prove it either way. Not going to lose sleep over it!

Athiests need proof to believe...agnostics don't really care. That's my HUGELY simplified view of it.

 Exactly what Dave tells me and what I was trying to explain. It even seems like I'm the atheist in the relationship, I've been explaining and defending its reasons more than catholicism's...

The thing is that I understand his point of view.... but I still rely on exterior help though. It makes me feel safe.

No, I have nothing more to add. If society is content with the status quo which is based on some wierd ideas about sex, fair enough.
