I thought the problem with pork was tape worms, then we had regular meat inspection. I could be wrong though.

Furthermore, I find it so funny how you're accussing me of 'posting and running' when ppl were straight out asking you to put forth your own opinion, yet Ms Evasive decides...

As you brought it up, the only thing I have ever refused to do is indulge people when they want to pry into my private life. I have asked why/how this advances any given argument and I am still waiting for an answer on that one. I have not disrespected anyone in this thread and personally, I don't think you have made a good case to prove that anyone else has either.

Now, can someone please give me a reasoned explanation as to how homosexuality is sinful and why in this day and age religion should still be allowed to dictate how we treat homosexuals?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Dave's an atheist, I'm Catholic. We're both nuts :P

Seriously though, it's perfectly normal to believe in whatever you want or need to believe in. His strength comes from believing that everything that happens to him is perfectly explainable, that he owns his life. My strength comes from believing that there's someone watching out for me and that I'm not alone.

There's nothing strange about any of that, imo.

Right on.

BTW, Punky rocks!!! She was everything to me..... :P David loves to hear me say Punky, he says it's one of the few words I still say with an accent.. lol

I think the key phrase in PH's post is "in this day and age." I think your explanation made perfect sense. The question is why aren't people willing to let these things go when they're no longer relevant.

Maybe, point is it isn't a religious thing with pork, which many people assume it is.

I have a good friend who is Muslim and she told me about the pork and the fact they they think it is a dirty animal.. I'm only taking her word for it! :)

yah, i noticed he had changed his question. ;) so before moving on, i wanted to make sure he understood why it was made a sin in the first place. then we can ponder as to the why it is still held so.

harps and shooting love arrows into each other.

And who are WE to dictate and say what any religion should be allowed, or not allowed, to? If there's a religion, and people choose to follow and believe in it, let them be. It's called freedom. And you, btw, have all the freedom in the world to disagree with me. Isn't it great? :P

I'm not saying that you're wrong, I'm catholic but there are a few things I don't agree with... like being against homosexuality and condoms for exemple. But if I want them to respect my views, I should respect theirs. Attacking one another has taken us nowhere.

I can accept the principle of sin, if the meaning is a behaviour that is unacceptab.e/wrong.

What I don't understand is why two people of the same sex loving each other is wrong.

I do know that in the past some religions have had a problem with the whole notion of sex, that in effect it is not something that can be viewed as a pleasure but rather as a means to an end, procreation.

I know that in the not so distant past this view of sex was prevelant. If the idea that homosexuality is sinful rides on the back, as it were, of the whole notion that sex is itself more or less sinful unless as a tool to procreate (and even then, I have read religious zealots were of the view that only a state of abstinense is wholly acceptable to god/God.) then, I can see the argument, but only in terms where sex for pleasure is unacceptale. Otherwise, it would seem to me the argument comes unstuck.

However, I am willing to allow someone to elaborate on this, of course.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

No one's asking you to divulge your personal life...but you started this thread asking all sorts of questions all the while people asking you to answer your own, which you refused. That's what I meant....

Secondly, it's not for you to decide whether I've made my 'case' or not...I've spoken my mind and I stand by what I've said. I am sorry if you have problems with comprehension, even as repeatedly as it was stated.

To answer your question, I'm going with the obvious: in this day and age, religion is not dictating how we treat homosexuals....voters are. And in a democracy, it doesn't matter if they heard it at church or from Barney the Purple Dinosaur....the voting numbers are what controls it.
