see though 6 days doesn't mean 6 days as we see it today... and that is all I am going to say about that....

Maybe he created it in 6 days, but it certainly didn't happen 5,000 years ago. Or 50,000 years ago.

Or even 50,000,000 years ago. Try 15,000,000,000 years.

Or do you think God created it 5,000 years ago but made it look like it's 12-20 billion years old?

I mean, damn, that's a lot of work. He just had to create isotope pairs - such as rhenium

(Re-187) which decays into osmium (Os-187) with a half-life of 40 billion years. He had to

plant some 4-billion-year-old rocks on the surface of the Earth and 4.5-billion-year-old meteorites.

He had to create white dwarf stars as heavy as the Sun and a million times denser than water

which glow from residual heat and have taken 10 billion years to cool to their present state.

All those things just to fool us. And then he found Moses and told him to write down a bunch

of ####### in Hebrew.

Yah. I believe it.

You nerd.

I am still interested in the religious take on the reasons for gay marriage being sinful. Any takers?

ok, i won't get too into it, in fact this will be my only shot at it. :P

ahem: essentialy, religion was made to help mankind in a number of ways, mostly spiritually, but there where some physical aspects to it too. lets take the eating of pork. some religions ban it. why you ask? becasue back in the days, that could cause some nasty effexts. some the powers that were, made it so no one would eat pork and that got into religion. similar logic w/ homosexuality. homosexuality was thought to cause some problems so it was banned, and that too was put into religion.

i know iknow, very nut-shellish but i think you can see the basis of it.

If religion is allowed to set the default ethical standard on this, there should at least be a tangible argument for adopting this position. At least, that's my opinion.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

It's in the book of Leviticus.

Someone once wrote a letter to Dr Laura once about the problem with taking the book of Leviticus literally:

Dear Dr. Laura,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind him that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.

a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

B) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an Abomination (Lev 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

g) Lev 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27. How should they die?

i) I know from Lev 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev 24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted disciple and adoring fan.

Fine, PHm since you have such trouble seeing what I was referring to, here's a handful of it...

Is being a Christian, catholic, jewish or any other religeon unnatural and abnormal?

Not, it's not unnatural, it's just stupid.

:innocent:

Because people who have a religion are brainwashed into beliving that their religion is the only true path to god and eternal life.... so they belive that it is there job to impose their religion and its believes on everyone else... to save them from evil and to secure a special place in heaven for themselves....

I'm not brainwashed...nor do I believe any of the other things you claim religious ppl believe

The Bible claims that God created everything 5,000 years ago, in six days.

Physics tells us otherwise.

And common sense...

Nice!

I'd like to think that I am more tolerant of the differences in society than a person of religious leanings.

Maybe of other things mags, but obviously you're not tolerant of people of faith cos you seem to say we have no common sense...

You should know better than to expect a reasoned argument from a religious person.

I have no problem putting forth a reasoned argument ....

See, PH...AGAIN I will say...I have no problem ppl putting forth their own beliefs so long as they don't have to ####### on another's to do so. Which, ironically enough, most of the ppl here showing the religious disrespect are 'live and let live' in terms of the original gay marriage thread. But no one here needs to make blanket statements of religion and imply that we are thick sheep with no tolerance, no reasoning skills, without the ability to make a decision on our own. That's just wrong. It's factually incorrect too...but wrong in the very notion of feeling the need to mock someone who doesn't believe in the same things you do. Especially on a topic such as religion, which most religious people feel goes to the very core of them and is very special. I wouldn't mock anyone else's beliefs or lack of beliefs, yet it seems too much to ask to expect the same in return.

Furthermore, I find it so funny how you're accussing me of 'posting and running' when ppl were straight out asking you to put forth your own opinion, yet Ms Evasive decides she's gonna be quizmaster tonite and remain enigmatic with all the questions. This point is neither here nor there, but an observation

Other quotes of mine that were ignored....

Look I have nothing personal against religion. It has never crossed my path, so I am not insulting anyone here. Others may have had bad experiences of it...but I haven't.

But, MY common sense tells me the earth was NOT formed in 6 days. You can believe what you want. It doesn't affect me in the slightest. Nor do my beliefs affect yours...

My main quote, which you chose to ignore. I was talking about MY common sense. Which I clarified later on.

Marilyn P ~

However, although we have an idea how the universe was formed (Big Bang et al) we have no proof of that either.

*shrugs*

Me admitting that MY theory is as probable as Marilyn P's. I'm saying that WE WILL NEVER KNOW, not really.

You have quoted me twice all out of proportion AND context. Don't take MY own comments and turn them into what you wish to see. Please see the whole picture. :)

I have NOTHING against religion. I don't care what other people believe. It's up to them. I respect people if they deserve it REGARDLESS of religious beliefs. Marilyn P (who is also more than capable of sticking up for herself) has never given me a reason to not respect her.
