Wow how in the world can there be such a big difference between the two.

Exactly! I have scoured the web and I can't find anything like this so it leads me to think that some sort of mistake was made when the lawyer was researching the wage.... my understanding is that is what happened. I'm just afraid the process will be abandoned due to a mistake.

Ask them, while showing some current salaries from indeed.com - maybe the lawyer made a mistake, or maybe the position has less responsibility than you thought.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

What city is this for? NYC or SF?

What industry? Something where yearly salaries are often 100k+?

If yes to both, I could see this.

You might not care that you have a lower salary, but it affects others.

You can look at payscale.com and glassdoor.com for typical salaries. Don't forget benefits and paid vacation. You won't get much in some industries, you will in others.

If you are in Texas now, that has a very cheap cost-of-living. If you compare to Silicon Valley, there could be your 50k.
