Not a problem. Yes if the processing times table for your service center is past your priority date, then you can submit a service request. It doesn't expedite your petition, but it does tell you if they are working on it, what they are waiting for, if it's with an adjudicator, etc.. And if they should have been working on it but haven't yet, then it will be assigned to someone. If they aren't past your priority date, then they will just tell you to wait longer.

So it doesn't offer a guarantee, but it does help you with understanding where you are at in the process, and can help move things along if you were accidentally overlooked.

Thank you. That was very informative. Here's hoping our priority dates are not extended again. If I remember correctly, processing times changed from 5 to 6.2 to 7 months at the VSC. I'll pull my hair out if its increased again.

Well, actually I'm referring to the table, not the average chart. Find the table here: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.do

If a processing time is longer than 5 months they will put a specific date they are working on in the table.

You are probably thinking of the bar chart that looks like the below.

averagetimes_zps439ac19d.png

That's not the processing times service centers use. That's just an average out of the people being approved.

I have a question. Does NVC accept joint sponsorship? The person who is going to sponsor us is married. Why do they require 3 year tax return proof?

Not appropriate for this thread. Start a new one.

Be interesting to see what changes come tomorrow with the update to their processing times.

They have been updating it on the 4th and 5th of each month lately, but they technically can wait until the 15th. So we won't if they will update it tomorrow. They probably will, but don't be antsy if they wait another week or so.

Actually that's not accurate. The "as of" date is pretty much irrelevant. What you want to find is the "Last Updated" date at the top of the processing times, and that shows February 5th. So they will be updating again any day now, since they update the site monthly. When they do (if my priority date is passed) I will be submitting a service request.
