Hey all! My fiance and I just got out NOA 2 and are trying to obtain a police record from Canada. We are having difficulty doing this in a timely fashion. My fiance has determined that in order to get the police record from Canada he will have to make a trip up there. It seems that Chileans need to apply for a visitor's visa to enter Canada which could take up to 2 months. Now here's where things get complicated...

My fiance has dual citizenship with Italy. He obtained that through his brother who lives in the EU. My fiance has never lived in Italy nor does he have an Italian passport at the moment He was thinking about applying for the Italian passport because with that he won't need to apply for a Canadian visitors visa. He can just go to Canada, get the police record and come back to Santiago. My question is would obtaining the Italian passport jeopardize obtaining a K1 visa (or even our AOS for that matter)? I never mentioned it on the I-129F and was told it wasn't necessary since my fiance didn't even have an Italian passport. So if he were to get it now, I don't want that to mess things up somehow.

If he never lived in Italy the he doesnt need police clearance. They need police clearance where you lived 6 months or more but since he didnt lived there he doesnt need one.

Regarding police clearance, you fiance doesnt need to travel to canada to get this clearance. Did he consider going to the canadian embassy instead? My fiance lives and work in saudi arabia now and a philippine citizen but we need police clearance so he did go to the philippine embassy and he was able to get one without going back home. I hope this helps.

This is what the requirements says.

He did contact the Canadian embassy in Chile. He can't get it through them. He would have the go to the municipality in Santiago to get fingerprinted and then mail that to Canada. Since the Mounties won't accept digital fingerprint scans from outside Canada(which would only take 3 days to process) he has to get them done the old fashioned way with ink and paper. This process would take at LEAST 4 months to process delaying our case. Going to Canada is going to be quicker and easier.

We're not trying to get police clearance from Italy. Were trying to get a passport since my fiance technically has dual citizenship. On an Italian passport he could go to Canada without a visitor's visa. Otherwise on his Chilean passport he'd need to get a visitors visa which would take 2 months. We just want to know if getting the Italian passport would jeopardize getting our K1 visa, especially since I never mentioned it on the I-129F because he doesn't currently have the Italian passport.

Gosh, I am very sorry you are in this situation...

I don't see why it would be a problem that he has an italian passport... Plus the US embassy won't ever know or ask about that probably (why would they).

But of course I don't know for sure.

Good luck in your visa journey!

Hi,

I am currently in Australia and I am also trying to get a police clearance from Canada as quickly as possible. I did a bit of research yesterday and found a company that is accredited by the RCMP to scan ink fingerprints. The company then sends the electronic fingerprints to the RCMP and it takes three days to get the police clearance. They accept money orders or credit card payments. It costs only $50 (incl. RCMP processing fee).

The company is called Safran Morpho (formely known as L-1 Identity Solutions). I tried to post I link to the company's website in this message but it kept failing. Safran Morpho (formerly L-1 Identity Solutions) is listed as an RCMP-Accredited Fingerprinting Companies on the RCMP's website. Go to RCMP's website > Vulnerable Sector Checks > Scroll down to section Fingerprinting for a Vulnerable Sector Check and click on RCMP-Accredited Fingerprinting Companies link. (sorry, unable to post link to website for this as well).

There are many other companies on the internet offfering similar services. They all claim to be accredited by the RCMP but I can't find their names listed on the RCMP's website.

However, I still need to know if we had to apply for the Italian passport if that would mess things up for either the K1 or when we file for AOS. pretty please :innocent:
