Hi, Im 20 years old living in the UK and wants to travel to the U.S. for my sister's wedding later on this year! My only problem is i was denied a B2 visa about three months ago because they said i did not have enough strong ties to the UK which seems to be the sole reason for many denials for this visa. Another thing is i grew up in the U.S. from a young age which makes the VO think that I'm just trying to get back there and most likely overstay for good.

I have ties in the UK such as all my immediate family is here only one sister abroad, I have a job, I have money in the bank, and about to attend college. At the time of the first interview i did not state any of the above until after the denial when which nothing said after that really helps. I did not know that i needed all of this i just brought my details and a clean police report from the U.S. Also I haven't seen my father in over 12 years and just starting to build back a relationship and a little brother and sister that i'm just starting to build a relationship with. I don't know exactly if i state all of this next time i book an appointment if it will help or not. My sister who is getting married is also willing to write a invitation letter to her wedding so that the immigration knows that's my reason for wanting to go to the U.S.

I really would like someone to shed some light on this for me please and tell me if there is anything else i could possibly show that will help my chances this time around and if my ties are reasonable enough to show.

Like they said show strong ties. All the things you listed you need to show the job (letter from boss saying what time off you have), apartment lease, your acceptance letter and start date from college.

Because of your age it will look like you are trying to immigrate so you need to show them every reason why you will return. Not all the dad and kids and all that. The invitation letter of wedding is good shows a select event.

You lived in the US, how did you do that? Is your father a USC?

The bar is set higher for you, you need strong ties.

Why did you need a visa? Why didn't you use the WVP?

good luck

No my father is not. I moved there with my mother at a really young age and don't know much about what was going on at the time i just know my mother decided to leave and did not want me to stay. Although i moved there at such a young age i still have to file for a visa instead because whoever i spoke to from the immigration told me that when i turned the age of 18 I was responsible for myself and i should of left then but I stayed an extra year and couple months after for me to finish high school and get situated to leave after high school so they are looking at it as an overstay case. I did get permission from an top immigration officer to stay until i finish high school. He is who was dealing with our case. The VO at my last appointment said she would need that in writing so i also may need a letter from him. Anyways this is why i need a visa instead.

p.s. If i stayed a couple months longer i would of got the amnesty that Obama passed to be able to get a work permit. My sister got it because she was still there. Bad luck on behalf with that.

So how long have you been back in the UK?

Even if you could get a Visa you would also need a waiver for your ban, and that would not come through if approved until after the wedding.

Agreed, even if you were granted a visa, your ban has not been served.

Sorry

The "amnesty" you speak of is hardly amnesty. Your sister is still illegally in the US, and she would have a ban if she left. It just simply means they're choosing not to (in an official way) start removal proceedings.
