Hello everyone,

I have a question, or rather looking for some advice. I live with my (foreign) husband and children in my husband's country. My mom has cancer and it's my duty to help her out. I thought about loving her here, but she wouldn't be able to get the medical treatment she needs. Sooo our next opinion would be returning to the States. Overall, I'm happy in the country we're living here .... the only thing is my mom! It's quite drastic decision to make ... but for my mom I'd do it! Soooo i need some thoughts realistically .... should we do it or not even bother. I mean economically ... We have 4 kids ... if we were in the US we's have 7 people to support. My husband is in finance ... but I'm not sure what the possiblities for him in the US in his field. And as for me, I teach English here, but in the US I did secretarial work. If we were to move, we'd be going to North Cali ... East Bay. I' m worried about economics. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated!

Oh, I am so sorry! And such a difficult situation. Is there anyway you could return to the US on your own until your mother is better? Is the cancer terminal? If you move back to the US with your family, would it be permenant or would you intend to move back to Algeria?

good luck

Well, if we were to move, then it'll be premanent ... I'm not up for moving there then back here cos of my kids. We're doing fine here ... but my mom's the reason I would move back. She's in stage 1 cancer ... I'm the only family she has. So ... that's why I'm looking for advice.

Thankfully it is stage 1. What is her treatment timeline? Like I asked, is it possible to return home for the duration of her treatment then return to Algeria with your family?

good luck

I just want to throw in 2 cents here. Since your mom is stage 1 and has already begun treatment, it is my best guess that her treatment will be complete long before your paperwork to move. If at all possible, try to find a way to visit her for awhile. About 15 years ago I was stage 1 and 2 (each breast). Surgery, chemo and radiation, I was done with everything in about 6 months. Does your mom have friends or other relatives near who can help? I drove myself to all of my chemo and radiation treatments, because my (now deceased) husband worked. I'm not looking for sympathy, just trying to help with perspective. It sounds like things are going well for you where you are. Will your good fortune continue if you move? I understand your feelings, wanting to help your mom. Again, can you visit?
