If your income exceeds 125% of the poverty guidelines for your household size, then you won't need to submit any bank account information. Instead, you will submit your latest federal income tax return, your latest W-2, your current (at the time of the interview) paycheck stubs, and a letter from your employer.

Poverty Guidelines.

It's probably a good idea anyway to open up a new account in your name only.

I had this issue as well. My brother was on my checking account from 1996!!! I went to my bank to see if they could just remove his name. They told me they could not. I had to close the account and open a new one. So, I did. The thing I found amusing was that I had to have my brother give permission every time I wanted a loan for a car or when puchasing my houses, but the bank let me close the account without his permission. I changed the account, so he is my POD (payable on death) person, but his name no longer is written on my new account. Hopefully by interview time, we will have three statements with my new account. I didn't want to explain who this guy was with my same last name. I wanted to alleviate any suspicion.

Bank statements don't do anything for you, unless you are trying to show periodic deposits as proof of income, for instance, you were collecting disability, or annuity payments.

If you have reportable income, something that shows on your tax return, your last tax return in your best proof, plus a copy of your latest pay stub, et cetera, to show the income is still continuing.

Also, bank statements could help if your income fell short of the guidelines and you had a wad of cash in the bank that would make up for the shortfall.
