Does anyone know how soon after submitting one's 2012 tax return that I can get a tax return transcript from the IRS?

Is the fastest way to go to the local IRS office and have them print it for me, or is it better to order one online?

Any help, most appreciated.

Thanks!

after order my tax transcripts, it took 6 days before i had received them. however, you can go to your local irs office and you can get them right away. make sure you bring your social security card and your state DL or state id.

No, the tax transcript won't be available immediately after filing. You will need to file then wait until you hear that the return has been accepted and processed. Once it is processed it may take a week to 10 days before the transcript is ready - that was our experience a few years ago. You can always ask that question at the IRS, though. They will know.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

When applying for ROC last year, I requested tax transcripts using the automated phone service (website wouldn't take my address) and it took about 4 weeks to get them. For N-400, I'll definitely just take a trip to the IRS office. Thanks for clarifying when the transcripts usually become available.
