Cashed Check a Positive Sign?

I sent in the I-485, EAD, and AP paperwork for my wife and step-daughters. (K-1, K-2). I notice my bank has processed the check so I am wondering if this is a sign that the packet of material is accepted. I have not received any notices back yet in the mail, but thought I would ask the group how reliable it is when the check is cashed. Thanks for any advice and experience!

Yep! A cashed check means that the packet was accepted for initial review and not rejected outright. Expect NOA1 in the mail sometime soon.

Excellent! When we receive the NOA, will this be sufficient "proof" for people that my wife's status is under adjustment? We have had some trouble with banks and also with getting her driver's license. They seem to think her K-1 and I-94 are not adequate. I will be happy when all of this is finished!

It will probably not be sufficient proof to get a Driver's License. It is sufficient for any law enforcement she might encounter. Usually to get a DL a person needs an EAD or a GC, but check the laws of your state. Legal presence isn't required for a bank, so ask for a manager.

Carlos,

Yes I agree a cashed check is a good sign that the documents have been accepted.

Question as I am about to mail our AOS for my wife and step son - What is the cost you paid for each? I believe it is $1,070. (wife) and $$635. (son). Did you send one check or separate checks?

Thanks and good luck.

My daughters are 16 and 18 - old enough that I was required to spend $1,070 each - so I sent ONE check for $3,210. I thought about sending a money order, but I did not take the time to go to the bank! So I just sent one personal check and kept a photocopy. Everything seems to be fine.

Good luck!

Carlos
