Do NOT underestimate the trouble that a high-fraud consulate can cause. Do NOT.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Hi, we think it'll be very hard for you to get a reliable lawyer at $1,000.

We used a US law office with AILA membership for $3,000　for K-1 and AOS. We regret it.

The reason: slow response, no checking, lame excuses(even with dishonesty), bad writing and more.

I've never had this low quality of service before after paying a decent amount of money.

Because they required us to send evidences and forms so many times it took 2 months to just file our application.

In hindsight, I'm sure we could have handled this process more efficiently if we did it on our own.

You know, even before USCIS, you have to go through the US customs. They'll keep your international snail mail for 5 days to 2 weeks. So make sure your fiance(e) sends off everything needed at once!

You can hire a shrewd & effective lawyer for $5,000. That's for K-1 alone.

Or you can keep the money in your bank account to show at the embassy interview.

You could ask members here for their advice and experience.

• Feb 25, 2013 – USCIS Dallas Lockbox received
• Feb 27, 2013 – NOA1 date (CSC)
• Mar 04, 2013 – NOA1 hardcopy in mail

• Aug 07, 2013 – NOA2 (161 days)

• Aug 10, 2013 – NOA2 hardcopy in mail

• Sep 04, 2013 – file sent out from CSC

• Sep 12, 2013 – NVC assigned TKY case #

• Sep 13, 2013 – file in transit to TKY from NVC

• Sep 16, 2013 – CEAC site case status "READY"

• Oct 21, 2013 – Interview at Tokyo Embassy, approved in 3 minutes (236 days since NOA1)

• Oct 21, 2013 – CEAC site case status "Administrative Processing"

• Oct 22, 2013 – CEAC site case status "Issued"

• Oct 23, 2013 – K-1 visa delivered at around noon

I am a attorney, and when I started the process of trying to figure out the fiancé Visa process vs. going ahead and getting married and the forms used for each, I decided I needed help. I hadn't found this site at the time. My lawyer will help us through the change of status after we're married, for a flat rate. I also know his firm very well, so I have a lot of confidence in him. He helped me with what documentation we could use, what would be required for my fiance's job history (my fiancé has a lot of temporary jobs in his line of work), and he found an error on the forms that I had filled out. It has given me a lot of peace of mind to have someone who has been through the processes before help me out. I don't find that hiring him was either a waste of time or a waste of my money.
