Bringing parents here for USC

Hi I am thinking of moving away after my naturalization is complete but that means I will have no job. I currently own a house. My question is, if I want to bring my parents here, how long does it take from filing I-130 to a point that they go to the interview in my home country? Whether or not I can still bring them here even my wife and I have no job because of the move?

Thanks,

It would take about a year after filing for your parent to arrive. You would have to be living in the US at that time or intend on being here. If by "move away" you mean to leave the US then she won't get a visa. All family based petitions require a sponsor so either you will have to be making enough as a household or have someone lined up to help you.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I also have savings/checking that exceeds the poverty guideline, does that count?

When I said move away I meant to another state/city. So I can find a joint sponsor? Can my parents support themselves? Who can be the joint sponsor here in USA? Friend?

A joint sponsor will probably have to be closely related to you, or your parents, and you will still be financially responsible for them, even with a joint sponsor.

I also have savings/checking that exceeds the poverty guideline, does that count?

Is the checking/savings amount equal to 125% x five years of the poverty guidelines?

I'm sorry but where does it say it has to be 5 years? Did I mis read that some where? So basically 5 x whatever is listed as 125% above poverty guideline?

Yep. Instructions, paragraph 29.

Yep.

Where does it say that on USCIS? I am not sure where that 5 years rule comes in. The reason I ask this because I don't have that much.

It's x5 because assets will not continue, whereas income will. It's x5 because after 5 years in the USA, the parents can become US citizens and so the affadavit of support will become meaningless.

NDU is correct in that any greencard holder or US citizen living in the USA can be joint sponsor. However, it is a huge comittment and close family are more likely to do it.

When it comes to saveings you only need to make up the difference between income and required sponsorship income. So it you make 18k and need 20K you could use 10k of savings. ( 2k short times 5 )

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
