Hello! I've been on this site for months gathering information for the K1 visa and I got so tunnel visioned with that forum and getting our application out that I never scrolled down to see the personal non-visa ones. Well to start, I'm Shannon and I'm the USC. I met Daryl 5 years ago on a website called NHL Connect. The website doesn't exist anymore but it was essentially a facebook style website just for NHL hockey fans. We're both hardcore Buffalo Sabres fans (yeah, they suck. I know). Daryl is from London and I remember scrolling past his profile and thinking "Awesome! A Sabres fan in England". I added him thinking we could just talk hockey and it all went from there. We spent a month talking as friends and we both just knew instantly we had something special. 5 years later and we're still making trips back and forth to each other. On his trip to the US in Summer 2012 he proposed and we began our K1 process. Our application was filed Feb 28th and now we begin the long, but extremely worthwhile, wait to be together once and for all.

Our entire relationship I've been dogged with questions about how we make it work, and many have been judgmental or hesitant to understand. Until this site I'd never come across anyone else in my situation. This website has calmed my fears, kept me sane, and put me at ease with this daunting process.

I'm really hoping to make friends through this website that I can correspond with both on this website and possibly even through email or facebook to go through the process together and have support.

Thanks for reading! Good luck to all of you on your journeys! :)

Welcome to VJ, Shannon! I agree with you. Before I joined this forum, I was nervous and worried about the petition, fearing that it won't work or we'd get denied. I hope you'll enjoy staying here and that we'd get to be with our SO soon!

I grew up a fan of Buffalo (I'm from the Ithaca area), too.

Anyway, welcome to the forum!
