if the USA votes no (or China, or Russia), plus the country that claims and occupies the land says no, then it hardly matters how many vote yes. Its a symbolic victory, but it meant nothing on the ground.

She knows. She just likes to pretend she doesn't work for the losing side.

Palestinians haven't had much but symbolic victories for a long time. Their biggest victory, when Israel got out of the Gaza strip, had a lot of promise. Then they handed it over to Hamas which has made a real mess of the place. Hamas likes to claim it will drive Israel into the sea, but its Israel that could do it to the Gaza strip tomorrow if they chose to, and really no one could stop them before it was already done. I really wonder if Palestinians would show as much restrain if the situation was reversed? Its a mute point anyhow. Its a flipping mess over there, and it will probably stay that way until one side decides to totally wipe out the other. And currently only one side has that ability.

Or the Palestinians quietly fade into the broken people that the Native Americans have become.

Maybe they'll get casinos?

Aha we're getting back on topic, and the Israelis start giving them blankets infected with polio! Those radical islamic militants are just trying to get this to spread to Israel and take out the Palestinians. Soon they'll all be stuck sitting in chairs only good for dealing a hand of blackjack. Sorry son, no more stone throwing for you. Those Jews are sneaking with their long term plots.

If the USA pretended it wasn't there and stopped footing their bills, it wouldn't be there.

You mean Israel wouldn't be there if the US ignored it and stopped footing their bills.

The US has never footed the bills of Palestinians; rather, it throws the PA a few peanuts in return for enforcing the occupation.

And if the USA votes no (or China, or Russia), plus the country that claims and occupies the land says no, then it hardly matters how many vote yes. Its a symbolic victory, but it meant nothing on the ground. Wait it meant the people on the ground are now getting punished so some leaders could pat themselves on the back over their symbolic victory.

What's happening on the ground is a single apartheid state, and it has nothing to do with what Palestinians do or don't do.

But we'll see how it can be sustained...

You're on the side of institutionalized bigotry, ethnic cleansing, apartheid, theft, oppression, colonialization, and murder - that makes you the loser.

Nobody cares about Palestine.

It's not even a real country!

Amen.. They way I see it, if you keep punching somebody twice your size in the face for no reason, you need to stop complaining when you get your but whooped.

You just described most fundamental Islamic states. Which one does he live in.

Here we go again.

You might want to investigate the actual source of that much-repeated "drive Jews into the sea" meme...

Is that his excuse ?

Yes, without the USA adding to its support, although Israel supports itself more than the UN does, Israel may not never survived. I wouldn't say its a guarantee that it could survive without USA support today. If you think what the USA gives the PA is peanuts, maybe they should stop taking it?

I understand why Palestinians want to try to make the case of it being an apartheid state, after all it worked in South Africa. But I'm also not convinced the world as a whole is convinced it is an apartheid state or that it truly meets the definition. As long as the territories are considered occupied territories and the people, people under occupation, they may never meet that definition.

Why should the PA stop taking money, when that's all that props it up ?

You said the US foots Palestine's bills; but it doesn't. It throws the PA some chump change in return for the PA enforcing Israel's occupation for it. But US donations to the PA are a drop in the bucket compared to the tax money the PA collects and the money it gets from the EU and other Arab countries (which isn't much, either.)

The rest of the world is much more educated about the facts of the conflict than your average American, who has been spoon-fed Likudnik propaganda by cheerleaders in the American mass media for the last 40 years. But Americans are starting to figure it out.

I wonder what all the attitudes would be about this conflict if the Palestinians were Baptists or Lutherans and not a Muslim majority?

It isn't so much about them being Muslim, but rather that the Israelis feel the right to do as they please courtesy of the Holocaust and very few are willing to stand up to them on account of AIPAC and the like.

Persecution and genocide dehumanizes people, a lesson the Israelis will learn after the tables turn again and they are no longer the oppressors, but the oppressed. History is cyclical like that, shame that no one learns.
