I am a petitioner for a k-1 for my Brazilian fiance. I have read some places on this site that people did their "packet 3" before ever getting it from wherever. I am just wondering what that is exactly, if it is a good idea to do it early like that, at what step to do it, and how. Thanks! I love this forum and all the help it provides!

Paul,

after you get NOA2, your pettition is sent to NVC and then to Rio consulate. The Rio Consulate is the one sending you packet 3. From what I could understand it is more or less a way to tell the consulate we are ready to take the interview.

You can send packet 3 before recieving it, but you'll need to know assigned to your case by NVC and make sure the consulate has your case into their system.

Wishing you a fast journey.

My fiance and I worked on DS-230 form the other day. Most consulates want part 1 if the form returned as well as the checklist DS-2001 or OF-169. We are now waiting for the forms to arrive to then send back.

See: http://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1k2visa-application.html for an idea of packet 3 and 4, and what is done at the fiance's end

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Packet three is a list of items your fiancee will need to get completed by the interview. It includes forms, requirements for medical and police reports, photos, etc. Usually you can download the information from the embassy web site. It is usually a good idea to do this ahead of time so that you can be prepared. The forms must be prepared in English and all foreign documents must have a certified translation attached to them.

In his case the documents can be either in English or Portuguese.
